My husband and I would like to move to a new community and we are unsure where we should go. We are an interesting mix; he wears a black hat and I wear pants. When we met; we were somewhere in the middle and we have externally shifted in different directions. We would really like to stay in town and I was wondering if there were any communities we should possibly look into. We do have kids that would have to go to school which is one of the main concerns. Modern orthodox schools are ok for us hashkafically. If anyone has any insights, that would be great.

Baltimore or the outskirts of that area. You can dress like you do, he can wear white and black, and have lovely homes there, and Shuls where you can feel comfortable at. Schools also. (I have friends that live there).

Thank you for your response. Seems like an option although we’d prefer to stay closer in town.

Dallas sounds up your alley but you want to stay closer to in-town (which I assume to mean the Tristate area but you might want to clarify this. In that case I would maybe look into Highland Park/Edison.

Another vote for Teaneck! What your describing wouldn't raise an eyebrow. I've always found the Teaneck community to be very non-judgemental and live and let live. You'll also have a great selection of schools to choose from.

Definitely Teaneck. It's pretty live and let live. There are certain areas/shuls where you'll be more comfortable but no one will really care what you do in general. There are also tons of school options. Depending on what you're looking for I would recommend looking into Noam, YNJ is an option also although wearing pants you'd be in the minority there.

I think you'd feel very comfortable in Fair Lawn NJ with options for both shuls and schools, so that's another community worth looking into.

Five towns over west Hempstead or vice versa? Just curious which you’d recommend as a better option. I see a lot of votes for Teaneck as well.

Another Fair Lawn vote. People dress in Sheitels and others in shorts and they both go to the same Shuls.

Fairlawn is such a mix or is it just nonjudgmental?

I mean shorts are more minority I think but it really is a nice mix of people but additionally non judgmental. You can reach out to the shuls Darchei Noam or Shomrei Torah to spend a Shabbos and see Smile

If you're looking outside NJ, one suggestion is Lower Merion in Philadelphia.
