(I have been trying to stay away from not jewish music but listen here and there, for reference).
I recently came across the song spirit lead me/oceans by hillsong united. It seems to be a christian song. The lyrics are written You with a capital Y. Not sure if it's referencing G-d or yushka. Regardless, I find that the song really helps me with my emuna. I've been calmer and trusting more because of it. (iThis is not the first xtian song like this- also you say, blessings...) But it feels weird singing it/listening to it- what do you all think

I would not listen to it. I don't have such a problem with a good non-jewish song, but something which was specifically written perhaps targeting avodah zarah I would stay far away from.

I know you will get many different answers, but personally, there are some very beautiful christian music out there and if I dont actually hear the word Yoshke in the song, I also sometimes get a lift in my emunah.

Agree with this. If I don't hear that name I'm totally fine with it because as far as I'm concerned, their God is the same as my God.

And honestly even sometimes when the name is in the song I can deal with it. It's a personal thing. Depends on if it's mentioned in passing or if it's more the bulk of the song

But if it was just you with a capital I would assume that's God. And like I said, Christian God and Jewish God is the same God.

I love that song! And some of their other songs.

I listen to Christian music as long as it doesn’t go into depth about their beliefs that differ from ours. To me, a mention of Yoshke here and there isn’t gonna make a difference.

Personally I don’t think Hashem minds but I have no rabbinic backing.

I have this with the song "blessings". I first heard it sung by a jewish woman, and I was sososo moved. I later learned that it's a christian song and that did change a lot for me. I realized that not all of the Hashkafas behind the pretty words are in line with Yiddishkeit. I never asked a shailah about this but I would be curious if it's permissable.

I do remember learning that the writer of a song and melody put their neshama into it. When you listen it, that neshama enters you (music is the language of the soul...). So to have a song that was written by a Christian to praise their view of G-d, didn't feel right to me.

As a former Xtian myself, when they say “You” or “G-d” or “L-rd” they absolutely mean Yashke every single time because they believe Yashke and G-d are one in the same. Their G-d is not the same as ours. Probably assur to listen to this music. Imagine a similar song written by a Hindu referring to one of their gods….

I would suggest asking a Shaila. This is probably a pretty big deal .

OP, I wanted to recommend you this song:

https://youtu.be/YNqo4Un2uZI?s.....WG7H3

It doesn’t mention Yoshke’s name once and talks about concepts brought down in Kabbalah: how our souls agreed to everything we're going through. “It is well with my soul” is such a comforting message imo.

Music is extremely personal. If a song brings me to a higher place I will listen to it. Some “Jewish” music is serious garbage and I won’t listen or let my kids play it on the family speaker.
