I’ve never had one but am considering getting one (after trying to find a good new skin top and not finding what I’m looking for)

What is a tucked/folded lace? If I do that does that mean the lace won’t get stretched out?

What makes a lace wig less durable than a skin top? Can I brush it daily?

Is it very high maintenance?

Does folding the lace and lining the cap solve any durability problems?

I’m a SM,
I’ll try to answer to the best of my ability.
Folding and tucking a lace is the same thing. It’s technically more durable cuz it’s 2 layers once folded but from my experience it never lays flat once folded..

It’s less durable than a skin cuz the hair isn’t tied in as tight and they thin much faster

You can brush it daily but if you pull hard on the hair in the lace it will come out. Generally ur brushing the bottom thou ..

It’s not “very” high maintenance. The main maintenance is tightening the lace 1-2 times a year and filling to as needed. Some people are careful and never need to fill it

Lining the lace adds another layer and helps with tznius. Maybe adds a drop of durability.
Not a lot. Again I don’t recommend folding

Thanks 🩷 your response is very much appreciated

If I’m used to a skin top should I keep looking until I find something that works, or save up to be able to afford a better brand in skin top, or should I give lace a try?

My budget is $2500 and I want it to last 3 years

Can I use detangling spray on the bottom of a lace top wig?

I do need to brush my wigs daily as they get knotty especially in the winter!

Lace front is more durable but it seems much less common now. I've had my lace front a while and it only needs maintenace now.

I use detangeling spray on my lace top
Brush every time I wear it
Maybe I got longer than you are looking for but lace tops are more expensive than skin.
All of mine were over your budget

Once I wore a lace top, I could never go back. It’s so much more comfortable. Lays flatter, is lighter, stretchier. I have it lined bc my rav holds that’s necessary. In 2 years, haven’t had any issue. I brush it no problem (just don’t hold by the lace. I hold it upside down from the back to brush). Needed lace tightened once and my sheital macher just does it during a regular wash and set.

I’m that budget, I’d check out Irene level skin top. Very thin very flat. Not lace. How long do u wear?
The Rena, Kiki x, Irene level lace etc are all 2600-3k

I also want sleek so Irene level skin top won’t work.
I wear about 16 inch (mid- slightly lower than chest level)

I could save up for 3k but would only do it if it’s really worthwhile

I got my lace wig from online. Try Goldylocks. It's an Australian company but they're opening a store in Miami soon. I had it cut locally and love it so much. Bonus, I spent 1800 on a 20-inch lace. They have a great product, and I'm convinced SM's uncharge so much for the same thing.

milano still sells lace fronts which might be a better type to start with. Their pony wigs are super cheap and on sale now, and are lace front. If you wear them every day though, they only last about a year. I've been happy ordering off their website multiple times, and they have a decent exchange policy.
