Can anyone tell me about these seminaries? My daughter got a list of seminaries and we need to narrow it down to three. She’s a good smart fun girl she doesn’t want so academic after working hard in high school. She has tons of friends and wants to meet girls from all over

I'm just starting to learn about the seminaries myself (just listening to the conversations, my DD is in 11th grade). But I'll take a stab and say -
Chemdas - more yeshivish
Zimras - very yeshivish
Seminar - yeshivish but not super-so. Great for middle-of-the-road all-around type of girl (ok, I'm describing my niece who just went there).
I'm not sure about Tehillas and Neimas.

Wow. Quite a laundry list.

Op. Some context would be helpful to help you.

Where are you coming from and what is your "type"?

Where is this list from?
If it was given to you do know why these?

There is certainly a common thread, but there are some sems that are missing, depending on the thread.

When starting w my oldest dd I was in a similat boat of not having heard of any seminary that opened in the past 10 years and knowing precious little about any newer than Haddar.....

However, dd over the summer before 12th picked up loads of info about who in her high school, neighborhood, friends sisters, camp pple went where. All of the sudden she developed quite an opinion.
I found calling the mothers of my dds friends with older sisters and my neighbors to be the most helpful. (I had only one sib w a dd in sem)
Once you go through it and then see where everyone goes you get a picture. Since they know dd they can give targeted info.

Then I layered that with what the mechaneches said - they usually overlapped but had different nuances.

Im in a huge Lakewood high school. If youre from a small oot school and limited connections then I understand this may be harder.

If you want quick steroetypes, mothers who have married off a bunch of boys can get you started. Its also interesting to hear how dd may be perceived just due to her sem.

here's the info my daughter told me from talking to others:
lots of the same teachers in the all the listed seminaries, with similar level.
zimras - this yr out of 150ish girls, abt 90 from lkwd. girls from all diff schools, def a little 'brandy' - like fancy yeshivish type of girls from simple families. a little more academic than chemdas
chemdas - only takes a few from each high school in lkwd so has more of a diverse crowd, a little more yeshivish crowd than zimras.
seminar - more mainstream crowd. similar to crowd in oros high school with girls all types
tehillas - apparently most pricey from all and crowd is mix of the 3 above...but def a little more to the right than seminar.
neimas - BJJ type of seminary, very academic but only yeshivish crowd

Thanks for the info,
Interesting I heard zimras is more yeshivish than chemdas. Like most girls come from homes where the father learnt a long time in kollel or is still in kollel.

I know a bunch of girls that went to chemdas that come very solid baale batish homes.

I'm deciding where we should apply besides seminar, which sounds ideal to me, as its not so much one type.

Op, wht are you only considering these 5?

Especially since you mentione your dd specifically looking for not so intense work?

Tehilas certainly is more of a work school. Chemdas leans that way. Neimas is new, but billing itself that way.

all these seminaries brand themselves as serious and academic, as it attracts good, no-nonsense girls.
I have family in most of these seminaries and can say that this year, Seminar leans more relaxed, so the girls are not intense over academics, same for Chemdas.
Neimas is the yeshivish BJJ and VERY academic, so doesn't sound like a fit.
Tehilas is considered academic but is not on that level, but is NOT a laid back place- the girls are considered quite intense frumkeit-wise/socially.

Zimras has a very yeshivish group, but also more laid back, like Chemdas and Seminar.
Those three sound like your best bet.

Lots of girls in my daughters school who applied to Seminar also applied to BYA. Kind of middle of the road as well, but Seminar has a bit more of a yeshivish reputation I think. Both solid BY types of places. Kesser Chaya also overlapped with BYA but not as much with Seminar probably because I think it may skew to less yeshivish. All good, just my observations for type. Please don't think I'm badmouthing any. I sent to 1 of these and was thrilled Smile

My daughter is in Seminar. It is amazing. Very organized and on top of each girl. But they do have some freedom. It is very hard but my daughter is the chilled type and doesn’t complain about her work . It is really a huge mix and has 160 girls. Seems to have such nice group of girls bH. I agree it is very much Oros type.
