I noticed all my newborn’s stretchies and even some undershirts say don’t tumble dry.
Do they really need to hang to dry?

I dry stretchies. If hung to dry they are stiff. I like em soft.

I always lay baby clothes flat out to dry
If you put liquid fabric softener they will be soft

I like to dry all my baby clothes the first time so they are pre-shrunk, and then I know it's "true" size. Even if I plan to mostly hang-dry, I don't want to be commited to that every single time or risk losing an outfit to shrinkage.
Most things will be fine in the dryer but it does wear down the clothes faster. Your choice. I do a combination, you have to do what works for you. Like maybe just hang the outfits you really love!

Same. I just don't have time to hang everything. A shabbos dress, ok, but pajamas? I tumble-dry everything and use it as that shrunken size. (so I buy sized up if it looks like it will shrink)
