Thank you for that. I’ve been feeling so rotten for letting him go hungry like that. I keep trying to figure out if I misunderstood the doctor

Pediatrician told me once that when they have a stomach bug they can become a little lactose intolerant. (Iirc) so even if the actual virus is gone, to keep off dairy fir a couple days/ week.

Ugh so what do I do? My BM supply dried up ages ago and I have nothing left in the freezer. I should just focus on pedialyte and solids? Is that enough to sustain a 9 month old?

Can you go buy 1 can of soy formula?

Also not a great idea after a stomach bug. He'll be fine on solids and pedialite for a few days.

I wouldn’t start an unknown food during a stomach bug

Don't start on soy formula, it's heavier on the stomach.
Keep off for a few days from formula after the diarrhea stops if your baby is ok and then stomach should have healed by then.
It only affects some people not everyone. Only one of my children has to go off diary after a virus, never had it with any others.

*Babies are not meant to be taken off their food source, assuming they have an appetite and want to eat.
*When baby refuses formula, you supplement with electrolytes lite pedialyte to avoid dehydration, that a usually in initial acute stage of illness.
*Once baby’s appetite returns, and baby wants, feed them their formula.
*Confirm with a doctor first, but I would also buy probiotics (can open capsule and empty into beverage) to help promote healthy stomach.
*Also, The BRAT (bananas rice applesauce toast) diet is considered outdated and doesn’t provide enough nutrition for a baby and doctors don’t recommend it anymore .

The brat diet being considered outdated is the dumbest thing. It’s not meant as nutrition, it’s meant to have some energy and food while the stomach heals. It’s the only thing that does not bother the stomach. And nowadays people who believe it’s outdated and eat real food before healing have stomach issues for weeks/ months. It’s the stupidest thing. If you have long term diarrhea then you certainly lack nutrition! Use the brat diet if you would rather not have proper nutrition for a day or two and don’t use it if you would rather not have nutrition long term because you are stupidly not letting it heal.

You need to clear it up. It’s enough for a few days.

Another vote for pedialyte and solids for a few days. Shouldn't be an issue. But I am not a dr. Just a mom who's had similar experiences and was also told by the ped to cut formula till it's over. I did pedialyte and tea. But please ask
