Anyone with an eighth grade son applying to Ner?
Are they going to limit out of town spots since there are so many Baltimore eighth graders this year?
What are the timelines for farhers and acceptance’s?
Do they priorities families that have sent to the Bais Medrash?

They don't limit out of town to prioritize local boys. Their proportion is usually the same year after year.
It's been several years since we did it, but I think January through March was farhers/acceptances. We did ours the last week they had that year (end of February) because my son's bar mitzvah was in January and he had no problem getting in even though he was later. They generally have a feeling who they will accept even prior to farher.... Very important to have a rebbe speaking up on your behalf.
I don't think mechina acceptance has any correlation with BM attendance. It's different hanhala deciding. They may and probably do prioritize families with former Ner Yisroel background in general though. But I know many bochurim who went without that.

Thank you. Anyone on here from this year? My son has his farher in December - do we really wait months for an answer?
What is their max number of seats? There are currently 200 eighth grade boys in Baltimore. Where will everyone go?

I can't help you with this year's answers but many of the Baltimore boys aren't going to be going to Ner Yisroel. There's KT, TA, MC, SC, TC, Shlanger's and out of town is suitable for quite a few as well.
I want to say that Ner accepts around 60-70 9th graders.

I don’t have an eighth grade boy, but there are many yeshivas all over that boys go to. Don’t worry, everyone will have a place!

The max number of seats for Baltimore boys is I believe 40.I’m personally not bothering with Ner Yisroel. The local options ( shlangers, ner, kesser) have become elitist and don’t want to work with boys still a “work in progress” on their learning skills anymore. They want whatever their definition of “best and brightest” is and average learners with good middos won’t get into these places. I’m personally looking out of town and many other families are too.

Not everyone believes in sending out of town.

I don’t “believe” in sending out of town but I am forced into considering options I wouldn’t have considered because no options here make sense for my “middle of the road” son.

I don’t think this is true.
I know boys of all types at these yeshivas. Most are regular boys from regular families. Baltimore is also blessed with yeshivas for boys who need extra help or aren’t cut out for learning, and boys go back and forth. And some out of town yeshivas are rumored to be elitist or whatever or for certain boys. But please don’t bash a whole city.

Not bashing a whole city here- don’t know why you think that - I am simply just pointing out that there is no yeshiva for good boys who want to learn but don’t quite meet the standards set by these yeshivas- that’s what I mean by elitist - it has nothing to do with being from a regular family or not - Anyhow. I won’t be commenting on this thread anymore but as Baltimore grows, Baltimore is changing and there should be another option like kesser used to be ( a yeshiva that takes the “B” boys- which they don’t anymore)

I’m sorry if I misunderstood you.
I think that the yeshivas you mentioned take “B” boys, doesn’t Ner Yisroel have a rebbe for boys who need extra help? (That’s definitely for boys who are lower than B) And isn’t there a new yeshiva opening up? I forget what it’s called. My husband was talking about it the other day.

Kesser torah doesn't have a dorm- isn't it by default local kids?

My son is one of the 200 and I'm very worried. He is not ready to go out of town

It’s not a new issue. almost 30 years ago my great brother didn’t get into ner when my father was alumni. Shlangers bH opened then and took the overflow.
There will always be a shortage and then someone come to fill the gap.

Here are some facts about current numbers for Ner yisroel: (I have a son in Ner israel mechina 9th grade)
There are approx 55-60 boys in each grade. they definitely accept more than that, but some of those boys ultimately end up going to Shlangers or other yeshivas.
This year's 9th grade has approx 40-45 Baltimore boys and approx 15 out of towners. THey clearly accept more local boys than that because I know of at least 8 other boys who were accepted to Ner and didnt go.

This is very much not true about Ner Yisroel. There is a lower level class (smaller) in 9th grade to help get those lower level learners up to par.
I know many very very nice boys in Ner who are average learners. And its always been this way. It is not elitist. However KT was taking more average boys and has now become more picky about who they take. These are facts that I know from having a 9th grade son.
