Vomiting nightly | Imamother

My 6 week old baby has been vomiting every night at around the same time, somewhere between 6-10 pm. It's not spit up - comes forcefully out of his nose and mouth. My pediatrician said it's not uncommon and not to worry, but it's just so odd... he's growing nicely, I have way more than enough milk (but he doesn't seem to be overfeeding - he only takes one side per feed and stops when he's done). I'm already off eggs and dairy. Anyone seen anything like this before? I've already been to the allergist, we're going to a feeding therapist, and I'm wondering if we need to see GI...

I've had this with my lactose intolerant children. They eventually outgrew it. Until about 5 they would throw up at night at they had too much dairy. Even if you are off of dairy there's naturally lactose in your milk.

Reflux is also closely linked with lactose intolerance. And eczema. It's all the same umbrella.
My babies were also all on lactose free/soy formula. One of them literally threw everything up and could not gain any weight until we put her on allimentum.

I'm not new to the eating challenges... this is my 4th baby and 4/4 have allergies. One had to go on alimentum and a bottle thickener because of swallowing issues + intolerances and allergies. My last two would scream after every feeding, spitting up tons etc - it was obvious that something was bothering them. With my third I was able to eliminate certain foods, he went on reflux meds, and was able to nurse.

It just doesn't make sense to me that a baby would have an intolerance/allergy and the milk would only bother him for one feeding. But maybe that's because my others were not as easy-going about discomfort?

If it runs in your family I would not ignore it. Even more so if he’s ignoring it you need to do something about it. Just because he’s tolerating it doesn’t mean it’s good for his body to go through this.

I am looking for solutions... I'm just not convinced it's reflux - I had two kids on reflux meds - one went to an extremely high dose before we were able to see a GI who stopped it altogether. He didn't have reflux - he had a swallowing problem. The other baby actually did have reflux but he was unhappy with every feeding.

So technically could be the buildup of anything - doesn't have to be lactose... How did you figure out that it was specifically lactose bothering your baby?

Pediatrician did not think it was this since it's only once a day... that would be more times or not specific to one time of day.

My first was a miserable crying baby, had no idea what to do with her. Second was on soy for other reasons and was a pleasure, 3rd screamed until we went lactose free... by now I know my kids are all sensitive to lactose. They spit up a lot. They all have reflux. We have a lot of eczema.. DH's family has a lot of lactose intolerance, it tends to run in families. My hardest babies were the ones who still threw up at night when they were 4 years old if they had a lot of cheese and yogurt that day. Baby #6 went straight onto lactose free formula and was bh a pleasure. Dues soon with #7 imyh and planning to do the same.

If you've had screaming babies and reflux babies lactose would be the first thing I'd think about.

My baby wasn't colicky but is prone to reflux & I think the two above things has helped a lot.
