Hi all.
My almost 3 year old has been having constipation issues on and off.
Every time I ask the doctor, they prescribe Miralax.
Now I'm having issues toilet training because she has a negative association with relieving herself. Although she keeps asking to use the toilet, but then freaks out.
I decided to first try to make sure she is completely emptied out before trying to train her again.
So for the past 2 weeks I've been very on top of giving her Miralax every day (in the afternoon), and BH she's had a BM every day.
Yesterday, she had 4!! dirty diapers (they were rather loose). Idk how her small 26 lb body was able to hold so much backup.
Because the first 2 BMs were in the morning, I skipped the miralax dose later in the day. I thought that maybe I've been overdoing the miralax.
This morning I thought about it again, and decided that if she had 4 diapers, all the more so I need to continue the miralax.
Today, she did not have any dirty diapers. Perhaps because I didn't give her Miralax yesterday?
She also had 101 fever on Sunday, and a smaller appetite since. Maybe that caused the havoc the last 2 days? Not sure.
Now, I want to hear from other moms who had constipation issues with their children.
Do you think I should go to a pediatric GI?
Should I continue giving miralax? For how long?
Thank you!

Yes continue giving miralax, if you stop the constipation will return. If it gets worse, or she's really backed up you will need to do enemas to clear the back log. Watch the poo in you on YouTube and I recommend reading about MOP on bedwetting.com.
Miralax will only work if the problem isn't sever, and for it to work it must be given consistently over a long period

What works for us is miralax every day. if we stop even for 1 day then she gets extremely constipated and wakes up in the middle of the night from pain.

Eventually once she has been going regularly for a while, she will stop associating a BM with pain. At that point you should be able to wean off of the miralax. This normally takes a few months. Sounds like you haven't been doing it long enough.
Read the book "The Ins and Outs of Poop". I found it very very helpful (I ignored the parenting parts that I didn't agree with, but it explained the constipated cycle very well).

Thanks. I guess I'll keep doing it for a while.
I hate medications, so I'm always hesitant.
But seems that's what I should do. And I'll check with pediatrician at next week's well visit.
Thank you.
