Dd13 wants a fig phone.

All of my dd13 friends have had phones for past 2 years. It's at the point where I must get dd a phone now. Thing is all her friends have recently upgraded to a fig phone. I'm so torn. I don't know what's right thing to do. Should I just get her the fig phone or go with a dumb phone. She really really wants the fig phone. Any one have any guidance? Or anyone can recommend someone I can call for advice.

I called tag ( we spoke to the rabbi who runs it) and I was pretty surprised when they recommended I get the fig for my daughter.

There are different kinds of figs so do your research. Speak to her friends mothers and ask them what precautions they’re taking and what kind of phones their daughters have.

Yes but it has videos , you can send vidoes through txt, pictures, group chat. I'm not sure...are these bad? Can someone please teach me?

Give her the phone. If she is going to have sd cards and share info. You can have open communication if it's on your phone. If not she can just go buy whatever she wants and hide it

I have it. You cannot send vides.

You cannot view received videos. It is a dumb fun.
It has waze, weather, smartlist, sidder, rav kav. Ze hu.

You can send and receive pictures. She can text with friends.

It’s a kosher flip phone. She is correct majority of the teens Have phones today. There’s no public phones like back in the olden days! I actually think for safety purposes it’s better for her to have it so you can keep tabs on her.

My 14 and 13 year old have flip phones. Everything is blocked other than phone calls. No texts, no camera, no video calls. I wouldn't be comfortable with that.

Can you block video chatting? I would be ok with the phone part not the sending/receivinf pics/videos. I would also say from the beginning that you will be checking her phone as often as you wish. Obviously she can delete stuff though before you see it...

So the girls in the class have been doing whatsapp video on their mothers phone till recently...my daughter included. Now that the other girls got fig phones, they are video chatting on their figs. I'm not exactly sure why I would rather her just video chat with my phone, then her own phone. So I don't know if it's worth blocking and Starting a whole fuss with her or if I should just allow it( since I have been allowing on my own phone)

It does not have video. We have a family texting group. If someone sends a video they can’t see it

It is different. As long as it's your phone she's accountable to you. I assume she's not using your phone at 1 in the morning when you're sleeping? She also knows at any point you can ask for your phone back. There's less privacy.
