My brother who isn't frum (but they are having a traditional chuppah etc.) is getting married this year. His kallah said the wedding is going to be black tie. Does this mean I need to get my boys tuxedos?? My hope was to buy them both new suits and use them for yontif and shabbos in the future. Truly have no use for a tuxedo and don't want to waste $$ on a rental but I might have to. Any ideas? I don't want us to stick out. 😫

Black tie usually means a very fancy wedding.
If you want to get them nice outfits, there are gmachs that have, no charge

You can rent them
Is it black tie period or black tie optional?
If second, you can do with a black/dark suit

I really just wanted to take everyone to the suit lady and get them everything they need and then my daughter and I can go to lakewood for dresses but maybe I'll consider a gemach

How old are your sons? Little boys definitely shouldn't be wearing tuxes. Older teens, maybe.

No tuxes needed for such little boys. And a 3 year old, a suit? The 8 year old, get him a suit and an actual black tie

Kids can wear suits regardless, men technically should be wearing tuxedos but a black suit is fine even in secular circles. You can always order a cummerbund separately to put over his white shirt
You and your daughters need to the floor dresses/gowns though, 100%

My daughter is 6, I'm imagining a cute puffy gown situation is perfect for her

Ask her if she wants the boys to wear waistcoats and bow ties.

Your husband can wear a dinner shirt with a bow tie and a black suit. My husband does this in these situations
