My 4 year has an option for half day or full day. Half day is 4 hours and full is 8. I wonder what’s normal. When he stays half day he’s so bored at home, but when I leave him full day he comes home cranky…. Dunno what’s better.
So just wondering what the average time kids his age are at school

My 4.5 yr old is out 7 hours. She comes home a little cranky and in desperate need of love and a snack. She usually snaps out of it quickly though. I don't think 4 hours would be enough for her, she would be way too bored at home.

Mine is out 8:30-4:30 and has too much time to say she’s bored. I don’t regret the long hours.

I see it’s normal for a kid this age to be out 7-8 hours!! I feel guilty when I leave him, but he comes home to hugs and kisses and lots of mommy playtime so I guess he’ll be fine…

What do you do with them in the afternoon?

DD just turned 3 since she turned 2 is out from 8-3.45.
Apparently already in gan is arranging playdates.
Most days as soon as she has had a snack she is asking which neighbour from gan she can play or or if we can go to the park.
She is a social butterfly!
My others I did half day until they were atleast 3 ( besides my 2nd went full day for the 3 months after I gave birth at 2.5 yrs and then back down to half day) but I wasn't working as many hours so was able to bake and play with them whilst still maintaining the house and my sanity.

Is he eating his lunch nicely? Can you ask his morah to keep an eye on what he eats in the afternoon.
On the day the ganim and schools give beans and rice instead of a meaty meal I can tell straight away as all the kids come home moody.

No he’s ok with the Tzaharon food, and I also make a meaty evening meal so he’s eating great.
He has a problem that the kids get rowdy in afternoons and it annoys him. He’s a sensitive, quiet, well behaved child, but lately he’s climbing the walls and I don’t know if it’s because he’s getting older or tzaharon is too much for him.

My Dd was like that too. She thrived in gan and was obsessed with tzaharon. My son is more of a homebody….

Tzaharon is usually cheap babysitting.
My son also is a gentle tzadikl..but without tzaharon the afternoon is too boring for him. So hes signed up, but I often pick him up well before the end. Most days I work til 2 so either il get him on my way home, or a little after, around 3.
I mean, some days it doesnt work out so I get him later, but we both found this to be a good compromise.
As he gets older he finds it easier to deal with staying away from the rowdier kids.

Depends on how she feels and if I have appointments/many things to do. Sometimes 3 hours, sometimes 7. Mostly 5. I think thats enough. Its hard on them, its like a work day for us! So basically I dont want her to have to "work" full time and it really depends how she feels. Some days she says she wants to stay home so I definitely dont send her more than 3 hours. But I don't work at the moment, just have lots of doctors appointments. If I felt better I wouldnt send her on days she doesnt want to go.
Have to add, she is rather shy and reserved and has a massive problem with loud and rowdy kids.
When she is home we usually play together or go to a playground. When she is out for 7 hours you can see the difference in behavior. Lots of crying, getting frustrated, being clingy. Every kid is different.

My preschoolers are out 8 hours. Yes they come home tired, but I work and need the childcare.
ETA- this includes a nap/rest time

My son is 4, turning 5 .
He is out for exactly 5 hours and 10 minutes.
He loves the alone time, plays with my 1 yr old ..
Sometimes we do simple errands on the way home.
This is a lakewood kindergarten
