I just had this

Don't stop at 1 insurance broker.
I spoke to over 10 brokers recently until I got a significant difference.

Ask everyone you know
Get quotes from multiple brokers and asks them if they know other brokers who can do better.

That's how I got my policy

Speaking from a health insurance broker pov- each broker has their own relationships with different carriers so don’t assume they all get the same quotes

Make sure to get quotes, or try to get quotes, from all the major carriers in NY. Farmers, Progressive, State Farm, Allstate, Liberty Mutual, Geico. Most of these have quotes online. Though some might be currently blocking NY if they are losing too much money in the area. And also, speak to at least one independent agent. An independent agent is someone who sells more than just one company's insurance.

Eli Cohen is a good independent agency, I got a great quote through Paulie.

Here's some info for the insurance company I work with just so I'm plugging them too:

Car insurance went up a lot recently. You get a lower price if you have good credit, no tickets (if you have tickets, taking a course might help - but it's not just claims), and have carried car insurance for a while, preferably with higher than minimum limits. You can decrease your premium by selecting a high deductible, or if the car is old (doesn't apply to you yet, so don't do this), not paying for any comprehensive or collision insurance. If you haven't carried car insurance for a while, buy now at above minimum limits, then try shopping again in half a year.

You can also save by agreeing to the program where they track your driving. A lot of companies offer this. In return for them being able to track how you drive (which hopefully means you'll drive more safely), they usually give a discount, the size of the discount depending on how well you drive (in particular, avoid short stops.)

Car insurance companies sometimes have 3 different prices - the price you get if you get a quote through their website, the price you get if you get a quote through an exclusive agent, and the price you get if you get a quote through an independent agent. That is assuming that all 3 options are available, which is not always the case.

Do you have any memberships to get a discount? AAA, a credit union, USAA, anything like that?
