My son has five classmates who never bring any snack. The cheder does give snack at the end of the day, but the other boys all bring snack in addition to that.
Ds assumes they can’t afford it, and he shares his snack every day.
I don’t really know the background story but just want to make you aware.
If for whatever reason you decide to not send snack with your child while their classmates do, they are being viewed a certain way and are likely eating other kids snacks every day.

Sounds like you believe this is not the case?
Would you be surprised if 5 kids in the class couldn’t afford snack? We make 150k and live in a nice house. There have been times we couldn’t afford snack.

I have no idea. It’s possible that’s indeed the case. But also very possible there’s a different reason. If I knew forsure that was the reason I’d send extra snack for them. But maybe the mothers are health minded?

Good psa. I'm sure some parents assume that if the school gives snack then there's no need to send.

House of snack and kid complains it's no good and leaves without.

Another child left his on counter.

One rolled out of bed too late.

The bus came early and kid left his head at home

Ate 4 snacks on bus in am in addition to breakfast

That was me. Coming from a daycare where they served breakfast, 2 healthy snacks and lunch. We filled out a breakfast and lunch form and assumed that's what he's receiving... Luckily at orientation, the rebbi informed us that they don't serve breakfast and "snack" is a junk snack bag.

My kids forget, or are running late or say they hate everything. Some kids like to shnor or only eat what their friend is eating. And they don’t know which snacks kids have today so they rather wait. You can tell your kid he’s not obligated to share nor does he need to assume they can’t afford it.

All the health minded parents I know send plenty of [healthier] snacks.

Can't imagine there are 5 health minded parents in one class who "don't believe" in sending snack.

But tbh can't afford it isn't the first place my mind would go either.

It’s the same kids every day. I love his innocence and big heart not sure I want to interfere with that just yet.

Is there a yeshiva rule about snack?
My boys yeshiva had a no snack rule. They provided snack. So I didn't send. Then I found out most boys bring anyway and mine were just mooching off other boys so I started sending

My dh was sent without snack all his years. So were all his siblings. It wasn’t pretty.

She didn’t think it was necessary. They had the money and resources.

Awareness is a good idea. Thanks for the psa.

And your son is so kind. You should be proud

Why can't the school give a choice of 2 snacks? My kids are very hungry throughout the day. I buy then snack for the week. Sometimes if they didn't like the snak and lunch they will finish their snack I. One day then they won't have snack fir the end of the week. I can't help it. I have a snack budget and a food budget. I can't understand why the schools can't offer more food and snack choices. Some kids are just not a fan for the flavor of the snack that day. Same with lunch sometimes it's only potatoes blitzes and a fruit. If my kids are lucky it's also cheese blitzes. But what about the kid that likes neither? They end up eating an apple for lunch. Then thei is the kid that only likes the blitzes for lunch but the teacher doesn't let have more then two. It's terribly unhealthy but my kid doesn't want another fruit or vegetables so snack it is.

My mother was very health minded and wouldn’t let me bring what the other kids were having. I was too embarrassed to bring the super healthy snacks (back then it wasn’t cool) so I told her I just won’t bring. Yes, the other girls assumed I was poor.

I never had snacks to bring to school due to my mom's neglect and health mindedness. It had nothing to do with $$
It's never healthy for kids to be hungry!! It's neglect.

My heart goes out for kids who don't have enough food for whatever reason.
If you can send, do it. You don't know how much it means to them.
