Looking for a new vacuum cleaner. I currently have an upright that I don’t love.

Don’t have a massive budget.

From people who prefer one type over the other, what are the pros/cons of upright v. Canister vacuum cleaners in your opinion?
If it makes a difference, I don’t have carpeting with the exception of one area rug.

In addition, I hate the fact that my current vacuum cleaner needs to get emptied into the trashcan. Are there any cons to getting a canister that is bagged?

So funny because I'm the opposite of you.
Firstly I love my upright vacuum cleaner because it's one piece. I used to have a cannister, and I hated having to drag the vacuum cleaner around with the cannister trailing behind, bumping into walls, getting stuck somewhere on the way.....I like that the piece I'm holding is all there is and comes along with me.
And I LOVE that it is bagless and gets emptied in the trash, as opposed to what I used to have - a bag that had to be replaced from time to time.

My current vacuum cleaner is a Shark, and I'm very happy with it. It has great suction and is budget friendly.

I have dust allergies, every time I empty the vacuum, I get itchy. So I usually just leave it to my cleaning help. But doesn’t always happen that way.
I haven’t had a canister is at least 10 years, so I don’t remember what I liked/didn’t like.

Between the two, I'd have to pick upright. Really I prefer stick vacuums to both. Much lighter.

They also make uprights that can switch into canister vacuums as well. I think the shark navigator has that feature.
