I’m so perplexed and a little off-put.
Is it just me?
I see people charging and people paying over 2K for make-up and 2K for hair for a simcha, but for health or education nobody wants to pay very much.
For example, someone posted on Facebook today that for their wedding, they are looking for an RN (someone with a degree and license) to come to the hall and provide an IV. How long does this take relative to make-up? She stated very clearly IV must be under $150 -how long does make-up take?
Someone here was looking for assistance with milk flow and the recommendations were a lactation consultant-if you can get it for free with insurance.
Same with a doula- how many hours is she at a birth/providing education before and giving after-care. My friend is a doula and people don’t want to pay her prices yet everyone seems to have money when it comes to simcha makeup and hair.
How much did you pay to teach your son to lein vs how much was makeup and hair for the simcha?
How much are you willing to pay for a tutor? Probably less than for an organizer or decorator.
I know this is a rant as I am in the process of trying to book for a simcha as I am just beyond nausea how much makeup artists charge especially knowing what my friends in healthcare and education make.

We never paid these outrageous prices for hair or makeup. Pm me if you're in Brooklyn and need a makeup artist who is excellent and reasonable

Yes I see this around me. People "can't afford" organic produce or healthier snacks for their kids but have endless money for fancy clothes, homes, vacations, cars.

Not when other people are charging $250-$500 per face.
I also heard of one super outstanding MUA who charges $5,000 for the kallah plus 2 other faces. Her work is really incredible, but still...that price is insane.

Are you sure it's the same people? I work in special ed and there are parents shelling out thousands of dollars in therapies and tutors to help these child. Some have it and some scrape together and others take the therapy that they can get for free.
People take insurance nutritionists and others pay a lot for dietitian and gym...
I wonder if the people paying so much for makeup are the same people looking for bargins in other areas.

If you watch enough YouTube and practice, you can do your own makeup.
I know so many people who were upset they even hired a MUA
