I used to sing hamalach every night since they were babies, but my 4 year old doesn't let me anymore because she thinks it's a baby song. What age do you start bedtime tefillos and what do you say?

It's been a while, but I think I started hamapil, shema, and hamalach with my kids when they were 2 or 3.
They listened until they were able to say everything with me.
We had a whole routine of stories and songs that culminated with kriyat shema al hamita.

Never did hamapil. My kids start that in high school on their own.

Did shema and hamalach from birth until at least 10. Sometimes older.

Shema and beheld vasser from birth.
We add on as they get older.
With newborn I'd just put my hand over their eyes and say "shema yisroel..... echad"
As they get older they put their own hands on their eyes and mumble along.
My now 2.5 year old knows shema, ve'ahavra, hamalach, hiney and all the pusimim you say 3x. Then adon olam.
I don't say it with her. But we say it with our 5 year old and she hears it every single night so....

Eventually I'd say around 8-9 it phases out and they say it by themselves. My 11 year old doesn't say hamapil yet.

We do shma and hamalach until they can say it themselves. Usually around 6. But I always remind them to say it

A lot of people start at birth and keep it up until the child says it independently. If this child doesn’t want to, I’d hold off, within a couple of years she’ll start saying it in school and hopefully will become interested in saying it at bedtime again. I wouldn’t push it

I say shema and hamalach and various other songs (what kid likes) from infant till they refuse to let me say it with them. At that point they say it by themselves with me listening. By about 10 they say it by themselves without me in the room.
