Can someone est a ballpark price for packing up an apartment? I've moved three times and I've done it all myself, but we have a move coming up and I physically don't know how I'll do it with a newborn and more than a handful of older but still young kids. Our moving truck expense in the past was less than $2,000. How much is it if they pack?

I had them pack a small apartment for just a few hundred dollars. Thr truck is the more expensive part

I wrapped dishes and China a few stacked together with saran wrap, and then into boxes cushioned with dish towels.
Sefarim got wrapped 5 volumes together with saran wrapped, no boxes.

Sorry not in Lakewood

Op,
You can get on Amazon stick on labels to put on the boxes that say “bedroom 3” or “dining room” etc and it’s all color coded.

And then if you can go to the new house and put a sign saying “bedroom 3” on the door it makes things easier.

But don’t put it on furniture. It doesn’t come off nicely.

For seforim you can get smaller boxes (we used a box gemach on Coney Island Avenue) and these smaller boxes were specifically intended for books and seforim so they don't get too heavy and become unmanageable.

Things like toasters and mixers- yeah, you put one large item in an egg box and then fill up the space around it with smaller stuff.

Might be helpful to label each box with that color coded sticker others mentioned and also a number, and keep a running list on your phone or something with what you stuck in each box, cuz believe me it's gonna take a while to unpack every box and you're going to be going in circles saying, "which box has the Shabbos salt shaker???" If you know which box number to look for it will make things easier.

You can buy packing paper on Amazon to wrap fragile items such as dishes. Or repurpose old newspapers if you have.

Another tip

A week before I moved I packed all silver, jewelry, passports and important documents that are irreplaceable, and put it by my friends house, I picked it all up a week or so after we moved.

I also packed a small overnight carryon on bag, one per person, so everyone had their essentials and 2 outfits and pjs for first couple of hectic days after arriving to new house. It took time to unpack the clothing, so this gave me some leeway. These suitcase went into MY car, not the moving truck, the night before we moved.

For dishes order foam packing sheets from Amazon and put between them. Neatest and simplest.
