Title says it all. Burnt out, no pay raises for years, no good work environment. What can one do with this degree or the BS part of it that pays well? Also open to new careers that do not require a lot of schooling.

Do you have a specialty or develop a specialty that you like? Working with adults on specific disorders, voice therapy, assessments...

Teach Bachelors or Masters level speech/communication class?

Would you want to teach reading? One of my kids had the school SLP as his reading group teacher one year and made a ton of progress. She had such a unique experience.

I do healthcare staffing and a customer I work with was specifically looking to hire a therapist to do quality assurance for their therapy programs. You can put those terms into indeed and see what pops up.

Hey why don't you work in a NICU?
My nephew had feeding and swallowing issues after birth and the SLP was so helpful!

Same boat as you OP. Theres not really any other field you can just pivot too. Sorrry youre also feeling this way. I think there are a lot of slps who regret getting this degree. I wonder if there are other fields that have such a thing too? Or it this unique to the speech degree?

I unfortunately can relate...I got my SLP degree 2 years ago and never used it. I can't bring myself to do it I don't like it and the pay isn't good especially for CF. I'm working on a different field now but I really wish I can think of something to do with my speech degree.

I also hate the field. I'm so burnt out from working with kids. I have no patience or energy for my own kids. And the pay is low and the work at home is endless

I wish I had the money time and energy to pursue a different field

I think most of us in related service fields this way. Unfortunately the pay hasn't increased along with inflation/cost of living...not only in doe but in hospitals/nursing homes too. So the field isn't as lucrative as we thought it would be. I don't see girls flocking to therapy programs like 15-20 years ago probably for this reason. Also now that remote work became more popular, therapies aren't the only flexible jobs out there. Sigh. Nobody could have predicted this. Most of us made our decisions based on what we knew when we chose our field. But I would not recommend ot/pt/speech as a career to someone beginning school now.

-You can become a school administrator
-You can open a therapy clinic and be the owner/ director so you don't have to work directly with kids
-You can develop courses and teach SLP CEU courses
-You can take a course in copywriting (writing content for websites and other publications, technical writing for manuals) and become a professional copywriter
-You can open a private practice so you can choose when and with whom you work. Much much less paperwork than being in a school setting.
-You can teach in your local frum elementary school

someone I know took her health background and was able to get a job in the Federal Government. She was writing policy for different insurances (Medicare/Medicaid) and utilizing her experience as a provider.(she was also an SLP)
