This is the problem, unless Amazon was at fault they are worried people will use credit card protection, anytime anyone complains to the credit card company or paypal the company takes the money back from Amazon and 95% of the time sides with the company even if the buyer is at fault. Besides for loosing the money it gives the company a bad score making it harder for them to get loans or other financial help.
A message for everyone, please stop returning items to stores if they are not at fault.
The only time you are supposed to turn to credit card or PayPal is if the company refuses to fix their problem e.g an item broke very quickly after regular use, or the company sent the wrong item or wrong colour or size.
It's called being decent human beings!
Wow I'm getting triggered and I don't even on a store or business.

I believe credit card protection is not contesting charges… it’s more like a warranty. Like if you don’t qualify for a return for a list of reasons, the card will reimburse you… but I might be wrong 😑

Please don’t do this. That is not why there is credit card protection. You learned this incorrectly. Please do research why credit card protection exists.
Returns like these are why stores become stricter about their return policies and why credit cards will eventually stop helping people in these situations.
Can you explain to me why you thought this was ok?
Your child ruined their shoes. Why should you get a replacement or your money back?
My child recently tore open a package of a toy I wanted to give as a gift to someone. I wouldn’t return that item. I just considered it a loss and my fault for letting my 2 year old get hold of something he shouldn’t have.

Right but you ruining the item doesn’t count or like everything would be able to be “protected” by credit card purchase.
A pair of shoes falling apart after one wear would be faulty manufacturing/poor quality. Writing all over shoes is no defect of the product.

A bit different - my son wore a shirt for the first time yesterday and leaned against something and got an obvious snag in the front. Very upsetting. But I assume it's his fault and can't return.
(Believe it or not, Amazon will take back open underwear that doesn't fit! U opened and tried! But maybe diff if private seller?)

I have contacted Amazon if something didn’t do their job within a month but it did do the job, so no.

Flip side story though. I ordered a toy to give as a gift, and target did an awful job packaging it, and the box was destroyed in shipping. I sent them a picture and they sent me a new one with no issue.

This isn't necessarily true
I don't know the terms and conditions of this particular credit card, but some of them definitely do cover accidents such as loss and theft. Some even cover a new phone if you drop it.

Credit Cards with returns protection is not the same as disputing a charge. If the credit card told her it's fine to use in this instance, then clearly this is included in the purpose of that benefit.

I would not be returning it claiming it was brand new, they have a "opened and used" button. Sometimes products are used and defective and you return them. I wouldn't be claiming it as unused. I know it was used. As with ANY Amazon return, I assume they would run it through their checks. The thing is it still looks perfectly fine. I was looking at this as kind of a "warranty situation". Since its like literally less than 2 weeks old.

Yeah, they'd probably allow you to return it, but it sounds really really not right. You're returning it because you got the full use of the item within the return window! Warranties are generally for when things don't work, not when they work perfectly and you don't need them anymore

You can consider it a loss if you want. But there are credit cards that offer purchase protection, which would cover exactly this situation. I think you're the one who needs to research what it means. I don't believe it impacts the seller. It's a benefit from the credit card company

Purchase protection covers accidental damage...
I wouldn't call my child drawing with a Sharpie on an item an accident.

This post is so triggering. I’m confused why it’s even a question to ask. The obvious answer is no. What upsets me even more is that we all have to suffer because ppl think they can return used items, broken thts their fault etc etc and give excuses for themself why it’s allowed. This leaves the companies to just make returns even more strict.

But this didn't isn't used and defective (by them)
It's used and you used it up.
Do you want it to "pass their checks" while being unsafe and someone else to use it??

The defective is from when it was bought. BH it wasn't defective when you got it, as it saved your son.
Now it's not defective either it has been used for it's purpose which makes it unusable.
If you buy a vacuum or something and use it a few times and then it stops working correctly, that is considered used and defective.

Just because it looks perfectly fine doesn't make it right.
It's not a warranty situation. It wasn't defective.
No. Just no.
