Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember hearing that Yael can still tell who each amother is, if need be. That would mean the site is definitely storing your info behind the scenes. So it shouldn't be that hard to modify the search feature so that each user can pull up any posts stored with their username data even if it was published anonymously.
That being said, I'm not a computer programmer so I suppose I don't really know how it works on the back end. |
Yael is indeed the only person who can look behind the anonymous color and see which username posted and she does that when for instance, someone reports thinking that this anonymous poster might be a troll and she'll look. And she won't tell us mods who it is, but she'll say no. This is a long-time poster. She's a verified poster. She's this. She's that and it's not a troll

Yes. If only I bookmarked the important threads where I posted amother. I was searching and searching for a certain thread that I had posted in before and I really needed to see that thread again for reference. BH I finally found it after searching for months. I realized that I hadn't bookmarked it but was following it. It would have been so much easier if we could just track our anon posts.

It's stored in some form, but not the usual way, and the search function could possibly be modified to allow for that, but it wouldn't necessarily be a simple thing. These types of customizations can get expensive.

Right, and I'm not saying anyone else should ever be able to see who's behind an anonymous post. I just meant that if Yael is able to see who it is on an as-needed basis, then that means the system is storing the data of who it is, so presumably the system should be able to pull up our own anonymous posts for us if we really wanted it to. Which, it sounds like, most of us would appreciate. When we click to see our own posts, we would love for our anonymous posts to show up among them.

Are you saying this as someone who actually knows how the innards of imamother works, or as someone who has an understanding of computer programming and is making an educated guess? Just curious.

I am familiar with phpbb out of the box code and I'm fluent in PHP and MySQL programming that integrates with it. Most of this board is customized in house for imamother... The same code that uses the arrows to track a poster within a thread even anonymously proves that it's not out of range to create code to track one's own anonymous posts on an "ego search". Doesn't mean Yael and her husband see it as a feature they want to integrate, but I don't think of it as "pricey".

Until then I'd very loudly and proudly posted under my sn and it literally came back to bite me.
So I was penalized for contributing to this site and making it the heimish place you all want it to be. It comes at my expense and others like me who post their sn. |
I changed my username too after being here for years. Years ago we were all friends here and I gave out way too much information. I’ve tried to be more careful since then, but I’m not going to build another history to my username. I would just leave.

It's an expensive query because it needs to search the entire board instead of just running the query on the specific thread. But there are ways to cache results which should make it doable, plus the fact that women aren't going to be running that search as often as they reload the home page, for example.
Being able to search within your own posts would be another very helpful feature.

Currently, how does it pull up all of our non-anonymous posts, that we already have the ability to see when we're logged in, by going to My Posts? And what would it have to do differently from that to pull up our anonymous posts?

If you look at the profile link it ends in different numbers. That corespondents to the different users: here are 3 pulled from this page
/forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=44881
/forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=15043
/forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=474
I believe this might have something to do with it.. But also, that's just how this style of social media works .. just like you can scroll down your own wall on Facebook.
If you trip to click on amother's profile, the link ends in this: and takes you to the FAQ .. there's no profile for her. /forum/faq.php#84
