I think being able to read all their previous posts was overkill, but I miss searching by username. I can recall specific posts made by specific posters that I'd like to look up (including mine!) but I can't.

I've always hated when people will tell me - 10 years ago you said XYZ. I don't remember what I said 10 years ago, and would rather not have 10 years ago's conversations dredged up....
I feel the same way as the whole backhistory thing. Yesterday's conversation is gone. Leave it that way.
(OTOH it makes me feel kinda creepy, like after 120 we will see all the things we did and said....)

I don’t care too much about removing it, but not being able to get to MY OWN past posts is a real hassle. Even if bookmarked I can’t search.
It would be great to have this option in the poll. If others agree you can report the original post and ask the mods to add the poll option.

You call it stalking. I call it community.

I do what I can to protect my anonymity, but at the end of the day, I don't actually care if someone figures me out. More that maybe joining a site is not so accepted in my community....but if they figured me out, they're on here too, so I guess that evens it

Would be useful to be able to see my own anonymous posts though. |
This is what I want! Ability to see my own anon posts. Sometimes I want to check up on replies to something I've said as amother and it's a pain trying to dig it all up.

My take:
I'd like to be able to search for my own anonymous posts. As some posters have said, I'd also like to have a poster history of the past five posts, not all the way back to the beginning.
What gets kind of annoying and confusing is when a poster has a generic Avatar that others also have, and I can't refer back to their post history to figure out who I'm communicating with.
I guess I need to change my avatar too as I'm sharing it with multiple people here....

You were never able to see your anon posts, even before the removal of poster history. Not others and not your own.

I had that exact feeling once. Someone bumped an old thread and there was something I wrote years before and that was what I thought. I’ll be standing there after 120 with my jaw dropping thinking, I said that?!
I agree yesterday’s conversation is gone and leave it that way, but getting a הרהור תשובה from time to time can be useful too

I'm sorry but this website was started as a community. Our tagline is literally "connecting frum women" many people here really miss the community feel that anonymous posting has destroyed.
If someone said you can block people. If you go to edit profile there's an ignore list. Put whoever you want on ignore.
But you cannot make other people responsible for your bad vibes. I don't get along with every poster on here either. But you can't ask them to hide because you get bad vibes.

I think a little fear that people might figure out your IRL identity is a good thing. There's a reason anonymous posters are way more likely to be jerks. Imagine how nice the site could be if people lived by the motto 'don't post anything you wouldn't want your real life friends to connect back to you.' (obv with exceptions for things that are secret, but that's why certain forums have anonymous posting)
I'm not saying we should actually make it harder to hide (since most people don't seem to want that), but it would have benefits.
As for bringing back poster history, I think it would be helpful to have the past 1-4 weeks. Reasons:
- there are a lot of threads where people are like 'as I was saying on the other thread' and it's hard to figure out what the heck they're talking about without poster history
- if someone's responding to you and you have no idea who they are, it's an easy way to get a quick reminder
- if you like someone's posts, you can see what interesting things they have to say. like 'follow' on other sites.

You came here to help people by telling them that they creep you out and you don't want to know them?
Thanks, I feel very helped.
Also, it's ironic that this is such a perfect example of how anonymous posting ruins this site. There are posters I don't agree with, there are posters who are rude, but nobody says anything quite this rude under their screenname.

Nope. Years ago I said some stupid things that I would NEVER say today (during COVID and the George Floyd riots) and I was happy it was hidden. I’ve also said things in private forums that I don’t want to read years later. I cringe just from the memory.

Because the site stores them as being under the "amother" username, and the post history function is just a search by username. If there were to be a function to show you all of your own amother posts, that would need to be coded differently.

But the site needs to know that the amother post you made is YOUR amother post and not someone else's, in order to maintain the same color for you all along. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember hearing that Yael can still tell who each amother is, if need be. That would mean the site is definitely storing your info behind the scenes. So it shouldn't be that hard to modify the search feature so that each user can pull up any posts stored with their username data even if it was published anonymously.
That being said, I'm not a computer programmer so I suppose I don't really know how it works on the back end.
