I came back under a different username bc someone looked at my post history and sent me a pm with a very identifying question asking something personal.
Until then I'd very loudly and proudly posted under my sn and it literally came back to bite me.
So I was penalized for contributing to this site and making it the heimish place you all want it to be. It comes at my expense and others like me who post their sn.

Same. This is better.
Except one time I solved a machlokes. I knew who it was and who they were mad at. I gave them “general” solutions without revealing that I knew everyone involved including the poster. They would have never listened if I had spoken to them in person.

Not everyone has preferences set to bookmark every time they post I know I don't.

Oy....
If that were me, I'd feel cheated now. My one rule is to stay away from any situation that I suspect I might know anyone involved.

I joined probably a few months before history was taken away. I was definitely more hesitant before that point to post under my own screenname because I felt that if someone figures out who I am based on one post (which did end up happening), I did not like the idea of them, in an instant, being able to go back and read everything I ever posted, knowing that I'm me. If history were to be given back, I'd go back to posting anything remotely sensitive only anonymously, and saving my username only for truly pareve responses that have no personal information whatsoever. I don't think that's the best use of this site.
I agree that I do still want to be able to search my own screenname- and anonymous-posts...

I’m sorry that happened to you, it says more about the person who texted you than anything else.
That being said,Yael and mods Have always encouraged people to post with their username. However, she should post anonymously when using any kind of identifying information. We have to have discretion when posting. Some post personal stuff “loud and proud” because they don’t care if they are figured out, those who wants to stay, private need to either change some details and keep it consistent, or they need to keep personal details, such as occupation, location, number of kids, specific ages of kids, all for amother.
Creating the warm “heimish” environment is accomplished when we post things like recipes, book recommendations, other kinds id recommendations, encouragement, offer chizzuk, offer a mazel tov, give input or advice under our names.
Sensitive posts, specific posts - those are perfect for amother.

I still have no idea what the benefit is to the history.

They put it together. It's not like I announced anything. But they pieced it together based on what I'd shared over many years including political opinions. That's my point.

I would definitely not post under screen name often of there would be user history.
I'm just thinking that for the ppl that want to get to know a user better maybe there can be like an option when u click on that screen name to have like a *summary of myself* like a get to know me paragraph written by user.
Just sharing my thoughts....

You mean like a more expansive profile?

I believe people should be encouraged to use their screen name with personal history, while also being mindful of sharing too much personal information.
Anonymous posts should be an option on ALL threads.
I’m sure people have opinions about me, and I understand that—it’s only natural, especially since I almost always use my screen name. But should I be at a disadvantage because of it?

The first step was removing anonymous posting in forums such as controversial topics and politics as well as forums where people were grossly misusing the anonymous function.

Politics, if done right, is never personal. But there are other cases where Anonymous posters are not allowed, and they should be.
For example, a while ago I figured out who a poster was based on an innocuous question, looking for a particular service in a particular City.
She asked for a service that's only necessary in a particular situation.
In my opinion, the key to allowing personal history lies in consistently safeguarding privacy whenever it's needed. Anonymous posting should be available whenever possible

I like it better this way. I'm more open to sharing my thoughts when I know it most likely will be buried somewhere on this site in 6 months from now.
That being said, there are still ways to get around it, even now. Any post that was quoted by someone else is searchable.

No, because then it just becomes a faceless sea of roses and you don't know who you're talking to.
Also look at how hard it is on any thread with mostly anonymous posts to even keep track of who's saying what. No
It's very annoying when you're trying to have a relationship and you can't because people are anonymous. I'm sorry I really disagree with that
People need to safeguard their own privacy. Don't expect the website to do it for you. You have to take a certain amount achrayus on

I'm 100% with you about encouraging usernames, less than 2% of my posts are anonymous.
But some questions are inherently personal

Nope. Why should thousands of posters see my profile when all they show is their rose face? I don't see a single reason why anyone should want it other than nosiness and stalking. I usually post under my SN so of course I'm better off with it gone.
