A friend of mine that I've known for years is looking for a place to stay within an hour of Manhattan. She is getting a degree at YU but online, and wants to stay within a reasonable commute of the Jewish community in Manhattan that she's grown to love.

She is not yet Shomer Shabbos but game to start keeping kosher. She is very respectful of all matters in Yiddishkeit and familiar with most things. She's worked at frum preschools and is trustworthy and reliable around kids.

She is willing to do some sort of work exchange, obviously has to be able to work with her schedule. She is also okay with a roommate.

Any ideas of where I can help her hunt? I really want her to be able to stay in touch with a Jewish community so she can keep growing in Yiddishkeit.

Washington Heights - lots of SS/SK girls of varying hashkafos sharing apartaments and cheap rent. I got a HUGE room in a beautiful large apartment for $800 a year aho

Passaic is a great neighborhood that is close by to manhattan. I doubt she can find an apartment that size but maybe a family can take her in..

Washington Heights is the popular cheaper (and I believe a bit more right wing) alternative.

$800 a year? Are you sure that's right?

There is probably a housing office or central place where people post looking for roommates.

My older neighbor rented rooms to students. She was very particular about who she rented to and so she rented to students - but they were grad students as they generally had quiet life style.

I would suspect a frum woman would have the same kind of appeal for someone looking for a quiet roommate.

Thank you!

Would anyone know where there might be a posting looking for roommates? She is doing it virtually not in person, so there is no housing office available to her (at least I don't think so).

Or where I could look for a Passaic family that might take her in exchange for some childcare?
