There is crossover reading with the main magazine but not much the other way around.
And suppose there are a few men who read Family First, why is that a consideration? It's ok for us women to have our own space. The wants of a few men shouldn't overtake the entire woman's space.

This is actually a great lesson for children to incorporate. It's ok for others to have their own space. Not everything revolves around them. They can learn to respect other people spaces. And they can learn to carry their own responsibilities by themselves.
In short they learn to be mentchen without giving up much. Win-win |
Are you allowed to read the men's magazine? Why should people be forbidden to read a magazine because some people are femenists and lack of pictures bother them?

The victim mentality is trendy today.
The same women who cry about gender roles and being second class citizens are really vocal here..
It's all the same old tainos coming from such a miserable place. You are where your mind is honestly.
I read all the magazines and it never even occured to me to be offended by the lack of women until here..
I feel sorry for children who are raised in a home that views the world as out to get them and that they are inferior because of stupidity

But I’m particularly bothered by circulars that don’t feature little girl photos for their clics projects, etc. I hate the message it sends our little girls. |
I feel very strongly about this. If they are going to have an age limit for girls photos it should be an age limit for pictures of ALL kids- boys as well.

And a man who values shmiraa einoyim will know not to pick up the women's magazine. Problem solved.
The woman's magazine is our space. It's ok for the man to accept that we have our own space too. They should respect that and take some level of responsibility for their own burden of shmiras einoyim. |
No. we all have responsibility for each other.

And you're correct, Soroh taught woman. Not men. I teach 7th grade girls. But would you be happy if I taught your 7th grade son?
I think not. If I'm wrong, you're in a different walk of life then mine. But many many communities wouldn't want their bar mitzvah boys being taught by a woman.
Yes I can run a business or be a CEO, there are halachos regarding how to work with the opposite gender. And I'm sure it would be okay to show my male co-worker pictures of my teenage girls. |
I'd actually be thrilled. I wish that my seventh grade son had female teachers for limudei chol. But this is an entirely separate conversation.

Yes, being tznius and teaching women/girls. No to being in the background. If she were in the background, she'd be cooking food and cleaning, not out there teaching women.
You missed my point about being a CEO or running a business. (But once you mentioned it, why would it be ok for you to show your male coworker your teenage daughter's picture? Is it tznius? Shouldn't she be in the background?)

Why? What's the problem with pictures of boys? Sorry, but on this topic, boys and girls are NOT created equal.

The REAL reason they don't have pics of women is because even if you took 700 pictures of her, she would hate all of them and not let any of them go to print. So it's easier to just have no pictures of women and save the photographers the hassle.
(Yes I'm kidding. But also, it happens to be true! )

You're missing the point. B'ohel means she wasn't 'out there like Avraham'. I'll find a source.
I teach, but I still think it's wrong to have pictures of woman. Not comparable at all.

Exactly. The men have a responsibility to women as well. They need to afford respect for the womens space as well. They can't just demand women cater to them without understanding that they need in turn to cater to the women.
It's a 2 way street. Your way sets the responsibility only in one direction.

But they print the material on sensitive women's issues in women's mags. Where is our responsibility for each other and our menfolk?

Sigh. Men respect woman plenty. Not having pics is not a lack of respect, it's for tzenius reasons. If you don't come from that culture, fine, but don't bash it.
There are many hundreds of publications that I wouldn't bring into my home. But I don't bash them and say they're sending a wrong message. I live and let live. Please do the same. Mishpacha is one of very few that I buy, I'm sorry you don't agree with their decision, but feel free to buy the vogue or Woman and home.

There's your mistake. I do come from that culture, so I know all the ins and the outs. And I still feel it's very wrong. So am I allowed to voice my thoughts?
And I do know how they always tell us how much they respect us but it's all words. It never holds water. Their actions tell a different story. Actions speak louder than words.

My husband has a rule that I'm not allowed to look at the picture we took until it's too late to retake it (like when we get home or whatever). He's learnt by now

Total crossover. I read it all (even the kids' is entertaining!), dh reads none but will randomly flip thru any of them, reading only captions if he happens to sit down next to it, and kids (including teens and elementary, both genders) read the kids, plus the politics, comics, features, and stories in the two mains.
