She just went back after Sukkos break, and she's not feeling well, feverish...
She's begging to come home, which I'm not even considering.
She wasn't even like that when she went in September for the first time.
Poor kid.
I know it's gonna pass. Today was a long, difficult day, but in the meantime her Mommy can use some Imamother support and commiseration
Thanks |
It’s heartbreaking! Great that you don’t consider let her come back. I was so anxious and heartbroken when my child called from abroad crying that I was ready to jump on the plane myself

Deep breaths.
My daughter is very happy in seminary, but she cries on the phone a lot. It is very very hard on me. She gets upset that I am not more sympathetic and that I don’t have the solution to all her problems. It is not her first time away- she’s been away all through high school but she was much closer to himeZ
It is very overwhelming.
I try to depersonalize it, and remind myself, she is happy, she is adjusting. She will be OK.
She is having a hard moment.
Over and over.
It will be OK.

I hated being sick away from home. I called 3 am my time with a stomach virus saying I must come home now. Call her eim habayis to check on her and make sure she has food and meds.

I live in israel and see my sil calling my mil telling her how much she doesn’t like it etc. I also see her running around, going out to eat with her friends etc. it’s an extremely hard adjustment but likely is that she isn’t crying in her bed all day

My dd called me at the beginning of the year of seminary not feeling well every phone call. I told her to go to the dr and she had CMV. She's a very picky eater so forced herself to eat better. It was so so hard!! Especially since it was at the beginning of the year she didn't know anyone and they probably thought it was a personality.

I had walking pneumonia when I was in seminary, and I wanted to come home so badly. There's something about being sick and just wanting to be home. But I had a fantastic seminary year, and even went back for Shana Bet after that.
So keep that in mind. BEH Gam Zeh Yaavor....

This is why when I was hosting girls in sem I always gave them my number and said call me if you need anything. Sometimes you just need a mommy..I remember some girls came to us who used to babysit for us in the US and they said they were so happy to be in a warm and cozy home environment. Once she's feeling better I'd suggest to her to find a family she likes and try to get close to them. It helps a lot during this year!!!

. Tell her to take each day at a time and she’ll be home in a week.
Does she think she’s missing something? Hopefully she won’t be homesick too much longer. Hang in there!!

If it makes you feel better, my son, the type who went a whole summer without calling home once from camp when he was in middle school because he was having too much fun, was in 12th grade in yeshiva, 4th year of dorming, called home miserable asking if I could bring him home because he was sick. Instead, we sent him to relatives in the same city and within a day he was back to his perky self. It's very hard not to get TLC when you're sick and doesn't indicate that there's more of an issue that will carry on in their enjoyment away from home. Refuah sheleima to her!
