What’s it like? Would a ‘cool’ boy fit in? He’s a good boy, solid frum from yeshivish school. But plays video games, like to dress ‘cool’.
Went to camp agudah and maybe will go to maaminim.
He needs a place that is a little more relaxed on rules such as making a big deal on a sweatshirt that isn’t completely black or navy.
A place that has sports and extracurricular activities.
I’m trying to find more info on this yeshiva to see if this is a good fit for him.
Please help!!

You can also maybe look into Torah temima. Sounds like that may be a better fit.

My son goes to a different CC branch high school, but my brothers (3) graduated from CC Brooklyn.

I don't know you, obviously, but to me it sounds like a good fit.

CC is a really interesting derech. I'd say their overarching aim is a lifelong love of Torah, and a lifelong dedication to the Jewish people. With those long term goals, there's a real focus on hashkafa, mussar, and learning how to learn. In the older grades, there's also a focus on learning how to teach as an extension of learning how to learn. They learn really slowly, and really in depth. There's a strong emphasis on middos. There's a strong emphasis on personal responsibility.

I think a cooler kid will be drawn in (almost hoodwinked) by the lack of yeshivish 'uniform' (colored shirts are totally acceptable), the joyful participation in sports, the high level secular studies, but make no mistake, the passion for Yiddishkeit and learning is intense and central.

There's a balance that I've observed that I find really beautiful. The learning is so engaging. Chaggim are celebrated with so much passion and energy and joy. On days off from yeshiva, there's voluntary zoom shiurim that tons of kids participate in because they want to. The rebbeim really care about the kids.

And, in my son's Yeshiva, on fast days in the dorm, the whole school watches (and mocks😉) The Minions together to help pass the time. There's a Superbowl party where the show is turned off for commercials and they say tehilim instead. Most CC high school and bais medrishes went to the support for Israel rally in DC last year. There is an emphasis on how to conduct yourself in the outside world as a ben Torah. My son's school is close to an army base, and the kids often meet service men and women at Target or Seven11 during dorm outings. The yeshiva policy is to offer to pick up the bill for any service people they encounter while our and about, as a gesture of respect and gratitude.

I guess I'm trying to say this is a real yeshivah, with a focus on Torah and middos that is (in my opinion) as passionate and real as any in Lakewood or Brooklyn, but without any of the yeshivish trappings.

If that's sounds like a fit for you, welcome!

cc brooklyn does require white shirts
it’s also more of a flatbush school than a real cc school.

Thank you for all the info!! It sounds amazing.

Curious Is there a yeshiva like this in Brooklyn that doesn’t require the the white shirts, but is still a mainstream yeshiva

Is the Brooklyn one really very different than the other CC yeshivas? In which way

This must be a pretty recent change. When my brothers were in school colored shirts were definitely allowed.

yes. it’s catering to a flatbush crowd. many boys end up going to the mir etc and not continuing in the cc system after high school. that being said some do feed into the whole cc system and the hanhala is mostly cc although not all these days.

It's more "in town" and slightly more yeshivish culturally.
But compared to other Brooklyn yeshiva's, it's still very noticeably "chofetz chaim" and more like the other branches.

My son graduated two years ago. Officially it was dark dress shoes but no one bothered him he wore black sneakers. All black.

There's definitely a dress code. I don't know if it was enforced but only sweaters without hoods. I found a sweatery zip fleece sweater that my son loved (black). Did others break the dress code? I don't know
