I think in the non Jewish world it's trending but the short coats are considered more classic. I think the Jewish world is a few years behind so if it stays in style and the style gets stringer the Jewish world will catch on. Except at that point you will. End to wear a long coat or feel so outdated. And the style will stay in long after its not as trendy by the non jews

In the frum world, not long puffers.
Long jackets, like wool look are stylish.
