Can anyone help me with a quick script. I have a few students who I’d like to call home to give some nachas. They did well on a hard test, they helped a classmate who was struggling. Not sure how to begin the phone call. They pick up the phone and I go “hi this is Mrs. _____. ___’s teacher.”
just calling to touch base?
Calling to give some nachas?
Just wanted to share something I noticed so far in school?
Everything sounds awkward and stilted. I’m worried parents are going to be weirded out by me calling on a Sunday afternoon just with “your daughter got 100 on the latest quiz and I’m really proud of her. “

You sound like such a nice and caring teacher.
I would be very happy to get a call like that.

My girls school does nachas calls twice a year. They usually go something like this.
Hi this is Morah Klein. I'm calling to tell you how much I love teaching Ahuva. She's such an adorable girl, and she's doing so well in school. She got 100 on her most recent vocabulary test and really has a great grasp on the material.
Do you have any concerns about anything going on in school?

I do this all the time!
'Hi, just wanted to tell you your daughter abc showed beautiful middos today/did beautifully on her test/has really picked up on her maths skills etc' I end with 'have nachas, Mrs. xyz'.
The texts always have positive feedback. Not only do I get an appreciative text back, but the child usually tells me the following day 'my mother was so happy u texted her!'. It's a win win all round.

Thank you all! Wish I could text or email. So much easier. My school requires calls 3-4 set times a year. I will try some of your suggestions. Thank you!

I don't think there's a single parent who wouldn't be happy to get a call letting them know how wonderful their kid is doing...

Good for them! A call is much more personal and heartwarming,
"How about, Hi it's Mrs G, Leah's Morah speaking, I'm phoning to give you a Nachas call, Leah has...:
Best is to get straight to the point cause many parent feel their hearts dropping when a teacher calls, so let them know asap that you're calling for a good reason.

Just make sure your second sentence after "This is the teacher" is: "everything is great" or "this is a nachas call"

It might feel so overly formal And distant to start your call with " this is a nachas call." But guess what? That is your relationship with the parents. When they hear your name, they're not settling in for a chat, they're wondering what's wrong and they want to hear the point of the call right away.
