My very husky son will be putting on tefillen soon. Need to shop for him for dress pants, davening jacket, wool winter coat etc etc.
We have such a hard time finding him suits (or separates) that fit. Once it's wide enough for him it's way too long and the crotch is way too long.
He was wearing the TO stretch pants. But he was wearing the largest boys size and they're too small.
Any suggestions on what to buy and where to shop that will have what he needs and make him feel good about himself?
I'm in north Jersey, would travel if it will be worthwhile. I would hate to shlep him to lakewood for the store to tell him we don't have anything for you and make him feel horrible about himself.
I'm really looking for a store that has good options, amazing customer service, will make him feel good about himself and has reasonable prices

That’s my boy in Brooklyn is very good with husky sizing and making boys feel good. I’d give them a call before shlepping in of course.

My son is chunky (not very husky, but doesn't fit in regular sizes) and suit shoppe in lakewood was so nice to deal with. They got him into a well fitting suit without making him feel bad.
That being said, I took my bar mitzvah son there and they didn't have a lot of weekday options. But for shabbos they were super helpful.

Call to be sure, but I think the suits start at about $150, more if it’s a fancier brand. They do tailoring in house (for additional charge).
Pants are around $40. Shirts similar. Not sure about coats.

Cuff and co does separates so it was mostly hemming. For the suit
Weekday pants I got from mofi but needed lengthening.
We usually end up having to pay a lot in tailoring. Mofi least for tailoring

I came here to tell you about Mofi. It is a husky brand clothes. The sales lady is so kind, sensitive and helpful. She opened up her brand bec she saw a need for her own kid(s). She works by appointment only so your child will get attention and won’t feel self conscious. It is situated in lakewood, but she has a website and ships no problem.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried mofi, but when I tried to plug in my sons measurements he does not fit their sizes. I guess he needs a mens size but he’s too short.
So I feel like I’m back to square one. Looking for a mens clothing store now that would cater to a husky short boy.

I had the same issue for my son. For his bar mitzva we drove in to lakewood, we found him a suit at Marcy's they do alteration.
A year later he doesn't fit anymore into kids husky. The best solution for us with the least amount of alteration was to buy men size Short. We found a suit size 40S men that worked for him.
Hope this help

His place will probably suggest a mens size and then hem pants. They did that for my son and it worked after doing alterations (hemming)

We went to the Hat Box in Flatbush. They ended up giving my son a portly suit which fits perfectly. Although my son is quite tall. Call them and see if they have short portly.

Call before going there. When I went they only had slim fit pants. They offered to take them out to fit my non slim child. That's when I went to suit shoppe and they had more options for his size.
They also have an in house tailor which makes things so easy.

Look into getting a custom suit ..after alterations it may not be that much more and it will fit without being a patchwork job

I guess it depends on your budget but I would splurge and get him a custom suit. He will have such an enjoyable experience, feel good about himself- plus it will be a sentimental suit that he designed himself for his bar mitzvah. Your paying for his self confidence as much as anything else

Thank you for all these replies. I really appreciate everyone who took time to respond! (Pretty ridiculous that this is the most stressful part of the bar mitzva!)
So BH he has a Shabbos suit (with plenty of alterations!
I was more worried about weekday clothing and extra pants for Shabbos. I will try a mens store.
Which is the best mens store in Monsey ? Also no one addressed the issue of the the crotch. Do any on your have experience of the crotch not fitting well?
