In my area in Lakewood 80% wear a snood/ tichel shabbos afternoon. If I felt as pressured as you to be uncomfortable just because of my neighbors I’d move. My motto in life is none of those people will be there to pick me up when I’m not feeling well after trying to follow their trends, therefore I will put myself and my needs before any trend.

Curious where you live?

I’m not trying to follow anyone’s trends.
I’ve been doing my own thing for years.
Even wearing a snood with shabbos guests…

Lately I don’t feel pretty like this anymore and my husband made a comment recently too so I think it’s time for a small change.
I still want to be comfortable which is why I started this thread.

There are more comfortable wigs..but much more expensive. The higher end wigs with less processed hair are lighter. (Israeli Michal, zissi premium or z line)
Think closer to 4k

Irene just made a new line- called "level" which has a natural wave look that is super lightweight and was $2300 in my length... Few inches past shoulder. Maybe worth it for you to try if you go for that look.

Interesting, my married daughter had tried a Michal during her engagement and she found it very uncomfortable and itchy. She ended up getting a Beverly.
And she wears snoods/pretied, etc... on Shabbos afternoon. Young married.
I think OP that an over-obsession with fitting in with the Schwartzes is not a good thing. I live in Lakewood for close to 30 years and I have learned to do my own thing and be my own individual self, so as not to get swallowed up in craziness. And yes, I wear a snood/tichel on Shabbos afternoon, though I'll put on a sheitel if I go for a walk with DH around the neighborhood, and then switch back to something more comfortable.
For me, it's about finding a balance that works for me.
BTW I was in Jackson for Shabbos this past week, in one of the Brookwood neighborhoods, and I saw most young woman (think, in their 30's) wearing snoods or tichels, with only the occasional sheitel.
So there are enough women who will put comfort over crazy conformity. You can do it too.

Guys, you are all waiting for each other to accept yourselves for wearing a tichel.

Start the trend, be confident, know that the looking dressed to the 9s all the time is just a sign of insecurity and make changes. Your friends and neighbors will appreciate and hopefully join your trend !

It’s interesting because I remember that years ago it was normal for ladies to be in shabbos robes and snoods. Some ladies put on Shaitels for Friday night but by shabbos morning most were wearing snoods at home.

I guess I will start looking at pretieds. I do wish the short tails would be a thing. I wore them about 15 years ago and felt comfortable.

I find it funny because I get dressed with my wig for the Friday night meal and day meal.
Especially Fri night- I always feel like that's when we're welcoming shabbos.

But when I walk around, many of my neighbors wear robes/maxis Fri night without wigs. And during the day after the meal yes wigs.

If you noticed, most of the responses actually said that they do wear snoods Smile

Yeah this. In my area in Lakewood I stand out if I wear a wig on Shabbos afternoon. It’s really area specific I guess.

I only wear my wig for meals and official family walks.

Op - I live in Lakewood too. Totally relate!

Like the others suggested, I started wearing preties and I actually see a trend of my friends doing the same. You’re not the only one. ❤️ (tell your husband also.)

Also, my friend shared with me a podcast episode that had tips on helping me be comfortable with having a sheitel on and the tips really do help. https://www.franciskakosman.co.....tmann Hope it helps you too.

Thanks, can you provide a timestamp where they talk about sheitels?
My sensory issues with sheitels is ruining my life

My bad! That was the original episode I got from my friend to help with my son and then they did one with sheitels. This is the one: https://www.franciskakosman.co.....mann. Start at minute 14. (The first half is with Dini wigs). Good luck!

I live in Raintree too (Laguna/Alamitos/Long Beach "side") and yes, many women wear their wigs for most of Shabbos, but many do not, and there is literally zero judgment.

It’s interesting a pre tied is considered dressier…
I have 2 issues with pre tieds-

One is that they always slip off of me and the other is that I’m very short and the long tails look funny on me. Years ago short tailed pre tieds were in style and they looked good on me but now I only see long tails.

Wear a Shaitel band and then it doesn’t slip back. Double tie it and then the strings will be shorter.

Nope, no judgement at all from anyone. Super nice neighborhood.

I just said that I understood where OP is coming from - when you live in a area that a lot of people might wear wigs and what I do (wear a tichel), and where I got mine from.

Lightpick, I listened to the Fran iska podcast you linked but didn’t hear anything about tips for wigs with sensory issues.

I’m very interested in hearing what those tips were.

Not sure where on the podcast it is as I listened to most of it

This episode doesn’t discuss wigs. Just listened to it.

I don’t wear my wig for meals… I wear the same snood I always wear but I do put on makeup so I thought I looked good until recently.

Thanks
When I tried on and double tied it made it look tighter on my head- like a bathing cap. It’s so much nicer when it flows.
I hope I can figure something out.

If you can afford a new pretty snood, get a couple.
If not just be happy you have a home and clothes and people should not judge you.
