Thinking about vacationing there. Is there kosher food and shuls in the area?

Chabad is there and they have a weekly bbq night. No restaurants

Unsolicited but I found Palm Springs to be the most the most boring place I’ve ever been. What specifically about it appeals to you?

I would like to explore multiple locations in CA. This looked like a good central point.

What location would be a better consideration?

Chabad has a beautiful shul in PS. Theres not much kosher food on a regular basis with exception of when Satmar Rebbe vacations there during the winter and they set up a temporary restaurant style kitchen.
Otherwise, Chabad of Rancho Mirage, has a weekly bbq during the winter season and you can also purchase Shabbos in a bag from them. Great experience

I’ve travelled all over CA several times from Napa (to San Francisco to Carmel by the Sea to Big Sur to Santa Barbara to LA all the way down to Oceanside and San Diego. I found everywhere more interesting than Palm Springs.

Is San Diego a better option? Are there shuls within walking distance to most locations?

No. Few major cities have shuls in the center of town walkable to attractions.

Sometimes we stay close to The Shul even if that’s not close to attractions. Sometimes we don’t travel over shabbos. Sometimes we change hotels or even cities for the weekend. Sometimes we don’t do shul.

Palm Springs is actually a lovely place for a few days but that is because I live in Los Angeles and so it is less than an hour away.

It is a place to relax and very nice in the winter because the weather is so gorgeous. I don't think I would make it a destination as a tourist unless I wanted to chill out but there are actually very interesting things to do

I took a horse trail ride on the reservation to the actual Palm Springs. Through the desert

I did a guided hike through the desert

I took the tram up which is fun especially when it is hot below because the temperature change can be extreme up so high

There is a shopping outlet a short drive. I haven't been there for years so I can't comment on quality.

There is a casino if you gamble - I don't.

The scenery is lovely - desert and mountains - clear blue skies and it is a nice place to really chill out.

As a former LAer, I agree Palm springs is boring.

San Diego is great with lots of attractions.

LA is central with walkable shuls.
From LA, can go to santa Barbara, malibu, etc and amusement parks too.
