What is the going rate for a 9yr old as any of the following in NY?

Mothers Helper, Counselor?
What other jobs can a 9 yr old do that I have not thought about?

Very low, and it’s illegal to work that young. You may get a few dollars an hour.

A 9 year old shouldn't be working as a counselor, or as a mother's helper. A 9 year old is a little kid. Let a kid be a kid.

What's wrong with a child wanting to earn some pocket money and having to work for it?
I'm sure I was that age maybe 10 when I went to a neighbour to watch and play with her toddlers whilst she cooked supper once a week and then asked if she wanted me to fold her laundry - I loved folding laundry at that age- It ended up also entertaining her kids as they would come watch me.
I learnt from a young age the value of money and was able to buy trending crazes at that time.

OP if your child is the one who wants it don't listen to anyone else.

In camps many times 9 year olds are given a token job and are rarely paid. Sometimes their parents will pay the camp to cover their salary.

In the Lakewood area a few years ago, the going rate was $10 per week per grade. So a sixth grader would get $60 a week.

this. The parents pay and the camp gives that money to the kid. You could probably make a similar arrangement during the school year as well.

Fwiw I was told that the "going rate" (even though the parents are the ones actually paying) goes according to grade. So 6th grade gets $60 and 7th gets $70 a week ... and I guess a 4th grader would get $40 a week ... but that's for daycamp.

I got a girl who was 8 to come play with my kids once. Her mother didn't want me to pay her. My niece who's 10 comes for 2 hours as a mothers helper and I pay her 15 for 2 hours. In hindsight that was a little too much but too late now once I started the arrangement. Should've been 10 or maybe 12.

My 9 year old couldn’t hold a job. Sure she can play with kids but she can’t be responsible for them.

And I'm sure you do know that there's a big line & difference between treating a 9 year old as the kid they are, and letting a 20 year old be a kid.

My neighbor asks if my 11 yr old could mothers help from time to time. She asked what she could pay her. I said absolutely nothing- she can do a chesed for a neighbor!

My daughter is that age k”h I can’t imagine her responsibly taking a job by anyone. And she is a mature girl, but a kid just the same.

It can be both. When my neighbor wanted dd to play to with her kids on a regular basis we agreed that she would pay but at a very reduced rate. It helped the mother recognize that dd was giving up her time to help and helped dd feel appreciated and motivated to do this on a regular basis.

I had to read the title a few times 😂
But joke aside, I always say my 9 yr old needs a job! He’s the type of kid that doesn’t know how to keep himself busy and that causes trouble. I feel like a job would make him have a sense of purpose and accomplishment. For example when he went collecting for tzedaka for his school , he was on cloud 9, was in a much better mood and his behavior was much better .I can tell a job would do him wonders . Not sure what a 9 yr old can do though . Especially a boy, he’s not going to watch toddlers . Too young to mow the lawn. Any ideas ?
