I’ve decided to ruffle some feathers tonight

I’m a playgroup morah

My pet peeve is parents who send their kids in their good clothes and want them to stay clean.

I am super loving. I’ll never send your kid home with a dirty diaper. I’ll wipe his face endlessly if I see mucus . I kiss booboos and cuddle your little ones when they are having trouble napping.

We have lots of fun.
We do water play.
We play with playdo.
We make projects.
We do sensory bins
We play outside
If your kid gets his clothes wet, of course I’ll change him!
But I’m not going to waste my time worrying about a few spots of washable paint or markers!

Toddlers love everything super sensory and I’m not about to slow down their getting developmentally meaningful experiences because they have to keep their clothes clean!!
If your kid two year old really wants to feed himself, I’ll do my best to get him to a wear a bib but I’m not going to insist that he be spoon fed. It’s much better for his motor skills and independence that he does the thing he wants to do himself.

I warned all the parents at the beginning of the yea to send in clothes they didn’t mind getting dirty.
This is how I operate.

Clean clothes on a toddler are not my priority.

You’re welcome to send somewhere else if you don’t like my style!!

This is a big pet peeve of mine in the yeshivish community. Just send your kid in hand me downs! The other toddlers aren’t judging him because he’s not wearing the right brands!!

If you only have one outfit and have to do laundry I’d get it but we all know that’s not the case …

I hear all that and agree. My issue was playgroup Morahs who gave my kids supplies that permanently stained their clothing. Sure, I got their top for $5 in Walmart but I really liked it and wanted to pass it down to the next kid and now there's permanent green paint all over it. Why??

I have made that mistake once many years ago! The paint said washable on the bottle but it wasn’t!!!!

All year long every time I looked at this little girls coat with black paint on it , I felt guilty!!!

Agree. As a mom of 2 toddlers my motto this summer was "day camp clothes only" I bought tshirts and shorts and they looked neat, cute and there was zero anxiety on my end of ruining clothing
Also I splurged on 2-3 nicer outfits for Sundays or events.

Just btw I feel the same about shoes.. my kids wear sneakers or nice supportive shoes because I want them to run and play and be a kid!!

When my children come home like that, it’s a good sign that they had a great day doing fun activities!

I send my toddler in nice clothes but I know they’ll possibly get ruined 🤷‍♀️
Is that ok? (Btw it’s rare that any outfit was permanently ruined. Almost everything comes out in the wash.)

I’d like my kid to look nice, I know I’m taking a risk. Most of it does come out. But teachers should only be using washable markers and paint. My kid who has uniform in the youngest grade came home with permanent paint all over her uniform and I’m really mad about it. And there I have no choice to send alternative clothing.
