Anyone's husband a sofer?
I'm genuinely curious about the pay. From the little I know it doesn't seem like the "hourly rate" is much and I'm wondering how families live off it.

We were told that for a sofer who writes (versus spending most time checking), it's only a real parnassah for the family if they live in Isreal.

Curious as to why. Is it because cost of living is lower in Israel? Because sofrim in Israel charge less than sofrim in America.
