Ds4 is going to be so upset if dh doesn’t want to take him. I understand dh bc he doesn’t really have anything to learn with him but ds is so jealous anyway. At what age do your boys start going?

Every town is different, think mine started around second or third grade. 4 is a bit young.

Shul is on our street, ds now 5 started going for approx 10-20 mins a bit after Pesach. I was in the park next to the shul and he would come to me after until the end and go back to fetch the treat. Many kids did that especially those with several brothers, they all had turns.
They also gave cards for a Chinese auction they did now but it was only from 6 up.

By us you generally start at 5, but anyone can come. My dh took our oldest son when he was 3.

My son started at 4. They brought home a weekly newsletter & alef beis review, so they did that. DH took him about 1/2 hour after they officially started.

It depends on the neighborhood.
My son is 5 and started kita bais now.
But there aren't many 5 year olds Here who go. But dh will likely take him anyway.
He usually "farhers" / reviews and does the weekly ivri and all other stuff after the seuda in the morning anyway. He'll just start doing it in shul at uvos ibunim.

How is your son 5 and in 2nd grade?

My oldest son probably in 3rd grade.
My youngest son at age 5….

She’s prob chassidish. Kitta beis is 1st grade for chassidish cheiders
For OP- I think my shul has an age limit, I’m pretty sure my boys started in 1st grade or primary. I guess that means 5 or 6

Pre 1a or 1st grade and they review Kriah and Chumash once they start in school but they bring a book to look at so they have soemthing to do while dh learns with the older ones.

Ok so I’ll have to figure out how to tell younger ds that his time hasn’t come yet. I didn’t realize he’s too young- thought he can do Alef beis and books..

My oldest son started at 5.5, but my youngest started at 4.5 because all his older brothers were going etc- when he turned 3.5 and was asking to go we made it a special mommy and me time and I bought crafts and projects to do, we would review aleph beis, make popcorn or cookies, do arts n crafts, open a new toy etc
Now he goes and knows he needs to be calmly looking at a book until it is his turn otherwise he won't be invited for the next shabbos. It isn't a punishment, he is just not as big yet, and if he is home with me we do something fun.
At this point he has been going on shabbos day with no issues, will see what motzei shabbos brings as that is so late so we might go back to what we did last year

Cut off here is mid/end summer.
He'll be 6 shevuos time. Kita alf is kindergarten (or prek), kita bais is pre1a (or Kindergarten), kita gimel is 1st.
Sort of.
Becuase the girls cut off is December. And the boys cut off is tamuz/av
Go figure.
I have 3 kids shevuos time. When my daughter was 5 like him she was in pre1a.
It's kind of intense here the curriculum. He already had his chumash seuda, and they already started chumash last year, halacha, gematria and more.... This year they'll do more chumash and then start on rashi. They only start reading and writing English in kita daled, that's 2nd grade.
When my daughters were his age they were starting with alef bais....

I think it really depends on the specific shul. My 4 year old went last year already at 3. Had some parsha questions but not much.
But its a real fun time for the kids in our shul they learn have a bunch of raffles and food. I sent along a coloring book with some crayons to entertain him while the other boys finished learning.

There is no rule. It's family dependent. We decided we start in kita alef (5) but hubby has taken some boys earlier here and there . They can do their pasha shilas or review alef bais. No heavy duty learning necessary.
