I'm helping my sister with her son's Bar Mitzvah and we're having trouble coming up with the wording for the invitation...
Any ideas??

It also depends on whether you're just making something on Shabbat or having an additional weekday reception.
Yaakov Meir
invites you to join him in his
Aliyah l'Torah
on Shabbat, Parshat XYZ
Hebrew Date, Secular Date
at Shul name
Shacharit at 8:00 a.m.
Kiddush following Tefilah
or
With praise and gratitude to Hashem Yisborach,
Mr and Mrs Gold/ Chaim and Rachel Gold
invite you as their son
Yaakov Meir
has his Aliyah l'Torah
on Shabbat, Parshat XYZ
Hebrew Date, Secular Date
at Shul name
Shacharit at 8:00 a.m.
Kiddush following Tefilah
If there's a hot lunch after for an invited few, they get a separate card with details. Or if there's a reception during the week for an invited few, there's a separate card.

It's a little different with (some) Chareidim and people who go for long Heebie-Jeebie wording. Also, the name of the mother sometimes isn't mentioned. It would be signed "Yossi Cohen veRaayato".
Also, check if you want to mention the grandparents after the parents' names. Some (ahem) grandparents like to be mentioned.
For our sons, we like to choose an appropriate pasuk which has to deal either with the son's name, or with the parsha, or with something appropriate to that child.
I wish I could scan our last son's invitation. It cost practially nothing to make and was beautiful. We put his name and הגיע למצוות on the front of the invite, with the pasuk
כי ישרים ישכנו ארץ ותמימים, יותרו בה.
I went through a lot of the ktuvim to get that appropriate pasuk.
On the inside, we had both Hebrew and English. Israelis only have Hebrew.
In English:
Please join us in celebrating the Bar Mitzva of our dear son
NERYA MEIR
On Shabbat Kodesh Parashat Yitro
Hebrew date
English date
Location
Zman of tfillat Shacharit
Seudat mitzva following shacharit
Our names
grandparents from both sides
Please RSVP (in Israel you don't need RSVP cards, phone and email are enough/more than enough)
English date
Hebrew location
תפילת שחרית בשעה שמונה ורבע
דעודת מצווה לארח התפילה
names and grandparents
We laid out the whole invite on the computer, and I had a girl do the art. The invite was printed on a letter-size page, folded into thirds. Each invite had the art work (hillside scene of Israel) colored in by hand. Colored pencils. It came out like a Tzfat water-color.
I suggest not to make the mistake I made in the U.S. with my 2 first: spending a lot of money on invites. They just get tossed.

We went through the samples at the printer--that way we knew the local customs and wording. For example, in America everyone does "bshevach v'HODAAH lahashem" whereas in Israel the word is "HODAYAH"-- don't ask me why-- also, in Israel it's BAR HAMITZVA" whereas in America it's HABAR MITZVAH"-- Mazal Tov and Good Luck
