My baby failed her newborn hearing test twice (only in one ear), once in the hospital and a second time at a month old.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Yes this happened to my baby. I took him to ENT who said it is likely fluid , that prevented him from passing and I should wait until 6 months before restesting . By the 6m well visit pediatrician said no need to followup by ENT bec he was obviously hearing, responding to sounds . I was supposed to go back to hearing test but was back to work and didnt have the time.

Please find the time to go back to redo the hearing test. The pediatrician doesn't know for sure and you want to be ultra careful with this because every day that a child doesn't hear well, there's a loss in growth/progress.
Imagine years down the road looking back. What would you be more confident of, being ultra careful or risking possible hearing loss and possible developmental delays as a result of hearing loss?

Not to scare you, I had this with my son and he is severely hearing impaired. It took a while to get a diagnosis because he constantly had fluid and infections, but every day without hearing aids took weeks or months of therapy for him to catch up. Do not neglect this, keep going back to the ENT, push for tubes if the fluid persists, and take him to a good audiologist for a hearing test.

Yes. My child failed in the hospital and everyone treated it like no big deal, even like a joke. Went once to the follow up appt the hospital booked for me and their abr machine wasn't working. Was very tempted not to go back, because again, no one thought it was serious.
My daughter is deaf. BH I did go back, so we were aware early, and BH she got the intervention that she needed, and is doing beautifully.
Edited to add...your pediatrician is, at best, doing a tympanogram. This is a veeeery basic screening of problems in the ear drum or middle ear. It's not an ABR and doesn't identify problems in the inner ear.
(And it goes without saying, making noise and deciding the baby reacted isn't worth anything.)

I want to reiterate what everyone else has said: please take this seriously and get your baby checked out.
To the poster whose child got "cleared" by their pediatrician after failing his/her screening- please please get your child tested by an audiologist. It is possible for your child to pass the pediatrician hearing screening while still actually having a hearing loss.
Our baby failed both of her hearing screenings- we got her tested at the audiologist (a few times actually) and found out that she is deaf. It was extremely hard to understand and accept as a postpartum mother.
However, I am so glad that we found out so early and were able.to get her (and ourselves) the help and therapy that was needed. Bh bh bh, she is doing so well. We are having a kiddush to celebrate and to thank Hshem in a couple of weeks. ❤️

Don’t rely on pediatrician please.
While my son passed pediatrician tests consistently and was doing amazing in school and learning to read in primary I had a feeling he couldn’t hear. Finally my pediatrician sent my to professional hearing test. His hearing was so bad the baseline of the pediatrician test couldn’t pick up in it.
