I know they have had a bad name over Covid and after. I am here to say that we are bh very happy with the care there. From the er experience to the nursing and staff, all bh great. Everybody was nice and super efficient. We were on the cardiac unit.
There is also a new Maimonides er, more like an urgent care, on 63rd street and 8th Ave. we were there as well and it’s new, beautiful and super efficient. People and Hatzlolah use it when they don’t think the patient will need to be admitted or the er on 48 is very busy or this is closer. But if it turns out the patient does need to be admitted they transport the patient straight from there to a room, no need to go through the er again.
Just wanted to share our personal experience.

Don't know what the agenda is on this thread...but I've had 7 babies at maimonedes and numerous ER visits/hospital stays with different kids over the years. I've always been happy with the service there. One of my kids is medically complicated and has had hospitalizations/procedures in other hospitals (nyu and Columbia for example) and I don't find maimonedes to be majorly inferior.

Lol yeah I got that. But it's kinda unusual to randomly open a thread saying "no matter what others say, I like XYZ place". Especially when it's a big corporation, not, say, an individual-owned small business.

Maimonidies is know that only their cardiac unit is decent with great care.
The ER in general is awful & hatzolah will not take there unless they have no other choice.

Huh? Maimo is hatzalah's first choice and pretty much everyone gets dropped there

I once needed the ER and asked to go to a diff hospital. They refused and called a diff ambulance company (which I was fine with, I didn't care who took me there)

Very true. Don't get me started on this topic. A story I was right there as it was unfolding with a sibling of mine. Medically compromised kid. Horrible.

Their cardiac care has gone down significantly. At this point, it’s all self proclaimed. My father Went there when he had his heart attack and they discharged him, knowing he had a serious issue with his heart that they normally would not have discharged him for. Immediately after being released, he was not feeling well and went to a Cardiologist who told him that the hospital should not have discharged him and he needs to go right back to the hospital because they’re not allowed to release patients with this issue until it’s treated. The reason they didn’t want to treat it immediately was because he had tested positive and was asymptomatic For Covid. This was just under two years ago. When he was re-admitted They also realized that they had botched up his first surgery and he had been bleeding internally for days.

I'm not saying they're not good, I'm upset that hatzalah only takes to that hospital.
In my nieces case, there was specialists drs on the phone with hatzalah and they refused. The kid doesn't even live in bp but was here for a simcha. It was an admission to the hospital guaranteed. I wouldn't even trust this hospital my kids with a case like that.
I've been to that er too. They're not bad, but I did hear a fair share stories with my family members one who even filed an official report because it was bad.

Look I understand that hatzalah won't go to manhattan hospitals. It's a lot to ask volunteers to give up so much time

In my case they said they can't take me but they offered to call another ambulance company.
The other company arrivef in minutes and the paramedic from that company was a nice jewish guy and provided excellent care
Did they not offer to call a diff company in your niece's case?

They are not a taxi service!
They are required to take you to the nearest hospital. If you want to go elsewhere you can call an ambulance for pay or one that’s willing to bill your insurance.

I've had both pleasant and really super duper rotten experiences with maimo. Recently had better experiences. Hope all the bed rep has helped them to try to change their image.

I had to go back to the hospital after my last birth, and my hatzalah ambulance drivers told me that if I wanted to go back to Manhattan they would drive me. I felt time was of the essence and said I would go to maimo. I think it depends on the ambulance driver and what they are dealing with.

No they're not. But when it comes to a medically complexed child they are required to do what's safest for the child. The child did not belong in maimonides.
Any other hatzalah, whether it's monsey or monroe takes what's best for the patient. They don't take to the closest. A relative of mine was taken to Mt sinai from monsey. It was critical but hatzalah decided that Mt sinai is the best place for him. They didn't make any other חשבונות! Hatzalah of bp has no reason not be the same. You think monsey hatzalah takes every patient to good Sam? It's pretty close to monsey. Why do they bother going all the way into Manhattan?? Monroe hatzalah the same!
