If you are looking for a Schroth certified PT, I can recommend one in Monsey.

Depending on where you are in NJ, Monsey might not be that far...

Do you need a PT, or do you need more
Extreme treatment already?
Rivka Robertson (PT) is in Queens, but she gives you an exercise plan that needs to be done daily + lifestyle changes. You only need to see her once every 6 weeks or so, so it’s not crazy to pay out of pocket as it’s infrequent. Her method (a combination of methods) really helped my teen son avoid a back brace and improve his curve. But you need to know your child. If they won’t do the exercises on their own, it’s a waste.

The Shriners hospital in Philadelphia will see your child/teen and give you a scoliosis brace if needed and also will perform spinal fusion surgery - All totally free of charge. Definitely worth checking into.

I used dr stankowitz and was happy
But we knew for sure didn’t need surgery
I wore a back brace
I don’t think there is anyone in NJ I would trust for surgery
There are hospitals in phili that are inn with certain nj insurances that even though the insurance doesn’t ussaly cover out of state they will cover

He referred me to someone to make the brace
But I followed up with him after I was fitted
It would depend on the insurance you have
I know Jefferson and chop both have contracts with certain nj insurance

Can I just say Thai I had fusion surgery when I was 14 and I was 45 degrees didn’t have any major issues until I was 36 it RUINED MY LIFE completely. I am in so much pain clipped my nerves in my neck. Lower back pain and the Rods are too fused to take out. I wish I ran away when I was supposed to have it. I knew it was a mistake. Please look online on fb there are groups that have material braces that are supposed to reverse they have offices in Manhattan. Swim. Pt. Chiropractor. Whatever it takes but don’t do surgery unless ur child is in pain now. Don’t do it as preventative it causes more prob then it prevents. My twin had to have 3 corrective surgeries from her back surgery

This is getting me worried. Who was your surgeon and I’m sorry for your pain.
What changed at 36?

It’s vital to speak to competent surgeons who are experts in the field. I don’t have any current experience with Shriners, but around 15 years ago they had world class orthopedic and neurosurgeons that worked there, and at the time they shared facilities (like post operative intensive care) with Temple Children’s hospital which is right next door. And I understand that the surgery is scary, and I feel for the poster who said she wished she didn’t have it, but I met many teenagers who had the surgery and as far as I knew once the initial recovery was over they are doing fine. But a more serious cautionary tale - I met a girl who missed a bunch of follow up visits that were supposed to monitor her curve, and her curve went from “watch and see” to a life threatening emergency - if she had the surgery before it got that bad she would have had a totally different (ie much better) quality of life. Maybe call the frum medical referral office (is it echo? I’m not sure) and ask for the best places that take your insurance, and see if they have any info on places like Shriners that don’t require insurance. Best wishes for finding the best doctor!
