Mine are usually alive if the lettuce is fresh. I check before washing so I know I'm not killing anything - either there are no bugs or I don't wash and use the leaves that have bugs.

You can if you do it in the proper way. Wash lettuce right before the meal. If you find a bug separate the good from the bad. Meaning, tear off the good lettuce from the bug area and place the good lettuce in your bowl.

That's a Shabbos issue.
On YT you can do boreir in the easiest way possible, even if it's pesoles mitoch ochel.

Borer still applies on Yom Tov.

Yes, but with different stipulations as I was mentioning.
One is that if something couldn't have been done before YT (you ran out of the item, you ran out of time, it's less fresh, etc) you're allowed to do it and should do it in the easiest way possible.

I've tried asking about the killing of bugs issue before but don't feel like I got a full answer to be able to address that component, but if for any valid reason I've wasn't able to do boreir before YT (same with cooking), it can be done.

This is so weird! Second time I've seen this comment this week, first time was on a different post. Why do you keep telling people that the way they spell yontif is not correct? It's really strange, seems trollish.

Not if it's food. Tzorech nefesh.
