We want turn on our gas on Friday and then light it using a 72 hour candle, but I’m scared to leave the fire on over Shabbos. Does anyone know if this is safe? Thanks!

I leave mine on for three days with an exhaust fan running and a window open.

Did this for years before electric starters. Buy a blech and cover the flame. Leave a pot of water over the flame.

Either run the exhaust fan on low or leave a window cracked nearby — but not so nearby that it can blow out the flame.

What does an exhaust fan do for safety?

Ladies, not for now but after RH buy yourself a device called Chagaz. It's like a Shabbos timer. It switches off your gas automatically.
I think you can even get it on Amazon.

Just leave it on and keep your window open the crack. I leave mine on every week and for yt leaving in for 3 days.

Because it sucks up air above your range and sends it outside. If the flame goes out it will expel any gases.

I've been using a gas stove with a blech my whole life, as did my mother and grandmother. We leave the kitchen window open at the top and a kettle full of water on the blech--which we would do anyway just to have hot water for tea and coffee. I don't use the stove to light candles--I use Yahrzeit licht for that.
