Give him a hug.
Say with him shema again and explain that Hashem is watching us.
Ask him if he wants a drink
Tell him your right outside his room and he’s safe…..

Are you sure it’s a nightmare? Maybe something’s bothering him?

So maybe ask him if he wants to rest on the couch for a few minutes and then go back to bed.

DC gets it too. 5 years old. Nothing bothers dc. Always happens if I transfer from one place to the next in middle of sleep, sometimes a regular night too. I try to hug and comfort dc but it doesn't usually work. It passes at about 15-20 min. No idea what it's from. The next day when I ask dc what happened dc had no recollection. The kid screams mommy mommy staring into my face, I hug, I hug tightly, talk to the kid and nothing helps

Night terror is not the same as a nightmare. You need to physically get him to wake up. I find even if they push away when you hug if you sit on the floor take them in your lap and stronghold with a foot over their foot and a strong tight hug . He will probably scream and try to get away but strongly hold onto him and you can whisper to him in an extremely calm voice.

They’re annoying but actually pretty harmless to the kid. I sometimes can calm my kids down by rubbing their feet, but doesn’t always work. You just need to wait it out
