I see vests are very in.
This my sound like a silly question, but I’m supposed to put a shell under right? As opposed to some shirt or turtle neck I’m supposed to by in addition. Shells are having a bit of a comeback?

Why would you not wear a blouse or shirt under a vest? It's a classic look. Some would avoid an especially frilly blouse under a very man-tailored vest, but others consider the contrast to be attractive. I would not wear a necktie and Oxford -style shirt under a vest, as that is altogether too mannish a look for my taste, but minus the necktie I would. About the only thing I wouldn't wear under a vest is a T-shirt or a pajama top. Or a dolman-sleeve top. Of course all depends on type and weight of fabrics and looseness or snugness of the fit.

Im wider than I want to be so I’m trying to slim down wherever I can. Can I wear a shell (thinner arms and it’ll be less material to be bulky under the vest) I just ask bc shells became so “out” and not that I really care but I need to get back into looking for in style.

I do turtlenecks, or tight tees. Shells would work especially now when it’s too early for turtlenecks

Yes. A black modal shell looks like a dressed up tee.
