I would llove to serve soup on the second night of rosh hashana but dont want to leave a flame on over the three day yom tov.
Anyone ever tried heating the soup up on the plata?
Do you know if it works/how long in advance I need to put it on the plata?

Soup doesn't really heat well on the platta in my experience. What I do is, I have a single plug-in electric burner that I set up for chag on a timer. It gets very hot! I have it go on before the meal to warm up the soup, it can also be set to go on Friday afternoon so you can cook food for shabbat if you want.

I have done veg soup and onion on a hot plata.
The Plata I have now doesn't get as hot as my old one did so I wouldn't do it.
I put it in a wide base pot so it was a shallow amount.
I put it on the minute it was nacht. The Plata was on from before so it was already hot.

I always heat soup on plata!! If it’s yom tov, you can stir it once every 30 min to make sure it doesn’t separate. Takes about 3 hours to warm up from fridge. If it’s not getting warm enough you can use a towel or platta cover.

Put the soup into a foil tin or two and cover with a few layers of foil and it heats up much faster. (Don't try moving it though!)

Best if its at room temp.

But op is asking about putting it on after nacht.

Are you allowed to even take it out the fridge to get to room temp if its for the "next day"?

If you take it out while you are rearranging the containers after lunch, you don't need to put it back. As per our Rav. As always, ask your own sheilah.

I pour just the amount of soup I expect to need for the seuda, into a disposable pan, which is thin, cover with foil and place on the hot plata. It takes really quick to heat up! Even faster if it's just broth.

We hold the same.
Also if you're feeding kids before shkiah you can leave it out.

Depending which plata you have it may work , the Israeli one gets very hot in the center you could put in advance and it will warm up fine. Depends on size of your pot as well I.e larger will take longer

I serve soup the second day instead of night for this reason. It's fun to have soup during the day for a change.

You can prep the soup before YT and leave it cooking on low in a crockpot.
