Start with a gi workup. It could be something like sibo which can be addressed with antibiotics. Or another cause which has a relatively clear fix

He can't control it?

Assuming he doesn't have any real medical issues, the next step is to change his diet.

Look at his diet. He needs to start paying attention to how different foods affect him. For me it's dairy. For others bread or gluten.

Is it worse on Shabbos?

Look into FODMAP. its less known about in the states but well known about in Australia.
Certain foods with fructose can trigger a reaction. For example, onions and garlic, pears etc can be problematic

Stomach issues are quite prevalent in the Ashkenazi community.

He could start a food diary, record what he eats and if he had gas that day. He might need to go on a FODMAP diet. In Australia there is a test for it but alot of people figure it out with the diet where they go off all fructose and slowly introduce one by one to find the culprits.

You clearly don't have stomach issues. 😉

He is in out of town yeshiva. This is so hard for me to see his diet!! I can use some chizuk, I'm so sad. What can I expect going forward? Is this going to take a long time to solve?

Maybe start with testing lactose intolerance which is very very commen among askenazim. He'll either have to try going off dairy esp straight milk or buy lactaids and try taking them with dairy. Lactaids might not work with straight milk, he might need lactaid milk.

The first culprit is usually dairy. He should go off dairy fully right away. Butter is fine. No milk, cheese, ice cream etc..

Is it happening daily? He should keep a food diary. Write every single thing he eat and write when it happens and he should start to see patterns. Doe he eat cholent or beans? They are very gassy.

This is just a quick fix
In no way does it mean that he doesn’t need to see a Dr.

Try GAS-X

There is special underwear that absorbs the smell. Inflatulence boxers. Try it.

A good broad spectrum digestive enzyme, betaine hcl, TUDCA and a probiotic can make a big difference right away, though he should still work out what's going on. It could be a food intolerance, bacterial or fungal overgrowth, h pylori, sibo, parasites, celiac, among other causes. Personally for me sulfur foods are high offenders, like garlic, broccoli, cauliflower.

He tried pads. Would these work better? Do you know anyone who had success with it?
