And what are the instructions? Is it hard? Can I do it myself?

I paid a hairdresser a LOT of money in the past and I would like to do this myself.

Would love step by step instructions starting with which one to buy.

Hair dye is something you will have to experiment with so see which brand and coloring you like best. Honestly I would not buy on Amazon the first time. I would go to CVS where they usually have little loops off hair and show you what the finished color looks like. That way you can compare to your skin tone and see what looks good with you and won't wash you out or anything.

Then you buy it being it home and follow the instructions. It's best to wear an old button down shirt that you don't mind getting stained and dirty.

I've done it a few times myself using this.

I don’t care that much about it being a perfect match since I cover my hair. I just don’t want to buy something that doesn’t work well, leaving the hair unevenly colored or red color when using brown dye.
The reason why I’m coloring even though I always cover it is for the stray hairs that seem to show even though I don’t want them to (and the ones that show are always the gray hairs!) and also when I go to get my wigs done I’ve become very self conscious when I remove my wig and I have so much gray in my hair these days.

L'Oreal Paris Excellence Creme Permanent Triple Care Hair Color, 5 Medium Brown, Gray Coverage For Up to 8 Weeks, All Hair Types, Pack of 1 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004.....ss_tl
This works really well and easier to apply cream than liquid.
Put Vaseline on Hair line and top of ears so your skin doesn't get stained.
Use junky dark towel to dry your hair so you don't stain anything.
