Our very dedicated Rebbe is making Bar Mitzvah for his DS this Shabbos.

A few parents want to send s/t in, as Hakaras HaToiv/ "sharing in the Simchah".

Funds are limited, since we just gave generously at the end of last school year.

We can either send
* a flower arrangment (always looks nice)
* 2 cakes and a box of rugelach ( erev Shabbos food, for anyone in the house of the Ba'al Simcha)
* a fancy cake (cream filled) ( for dessert/ bufet or to put in the freezer for Yom Tov)

I picked flower arrangements, because if you want to show appreciation, the best way to do that is by making a statement. A nice flower arrangements with a card can do just that.

A cake often sits unoticed.

Whats the budget? When my son's rebbe made a bar mitzvah everyone in the class contributed $10 and we bought a silver kiddush cup. I feel like it's more than flowers or a cake because it lasts forever and is used often.

Hard to know!
A few more ideas:
Giant fruit platter
Fancy chocolate platter like from sweet sensations if you’re in Lakewood

Are they a fancy family? I feel like flowers might not be best bec you don’t know color scheme unless you send classic white

Fancy cake as long as it’s delicious it Schuck’s cake sounds good

Simple yummy cake is always nice too for guests… Shabbos morning… can do with a big candy platter …

Honestly, most things that got delivered on Friday of the bar mitzvah just went in the freezer since I already had all my food and decor arranged. I would do a gift card to a local Seforim store for the boy.

Flowers is for the wife...
I don't know men who appreciate them
If they aren't the type to have fancy cakes I would buy that
Otherwise rogelach etc will always come in useful

Depending on the shul, I made a bar mitzvah where you make your own kiddush ie nothing is provided so I really appreciated anyone who sent baked goods.

With a flower arrangement, you don't know if they already have tons of flowers, if they have some sort of color scheme, etc..

I agree I'd either ask the wife, or send a gift card.
