Wasting our time with teachers "meetings"

I would be irritated if I was the OP too. Teacher meetings should be about learning new skills or giving over practical information teachers need to start the year. A mentalist is for a staff Chanukah party.

At our teachers meetings, the principal speaks first about all the important stuff, then the secretary discusses technical stuff and then there's the workshop/show/speaker/presentation. I usually leave then.

In addition, I have learned to add to my contract that I do not obligate myself to attend any event outside of my regular teaching hours. I will try my best, but I am not contractually obligated. So if I teach three days a week, and they decide to make a teachers appreciation lunch on my day off, I might show up to be nice to the organizers, but if it's any kind of speaker or all teachers must attend meeting, I'm not there. I have a nursing baby and part of the reason I took this job is because it enables me to be there for my kids. Staying out all day doesn't mesh with that.
