My husband and I enjoy spending time in nature and had a plan to canoe down the Delaware river as a min-vacation. Was wondering about the tznius situation. My husband is very careful about shmiras einayim. Anyone been on this trip recently and can give an opinion on the “matzav”? Is it just a bad idea on a sunny August day?

Any water related trip in the summer doesn't go together with shemiras einayim.

We have been to quiet spots and not run into trouble. Is there any part of the Delaware that has less traffic?

We have been to Delaware water gap canoeing/kayaking many times .on a summer weekday it is very quiet . You will most prob be launching with several frum families. Once on water go at your own pace and will barely see any one in several hrs.

Do you have your own boat? I believe the major rental companies kitittiny or adventures have a minimum age and 3yr old would not be old enough. I person wouldn't want to do such a trip with a 3yr old. On a very small boat for hrs, are they comfortable with life jacket, sit still so long? Out in direct sunlight for hrs...bathroom.. really not sge appropriate trip

This makes me hopeful. Thanks.

For Kittatiny I believe the weight requirement is 30lbs. We have taken kids even younger than 3 but sometimes they are more nitpicky than other times. I agree that it is usually pretty quiet on a regular weekday. There are other people out but they are few an far between. If you do encounter someone who is not dressed according to your standards you can choose to paddle more quickly to pass them, or you can just keep your eyes in your own raft. Keep in mind that because it is late in the season and it hasn't rained much in the past little while the water might be moving very slowly, and the 3-4 hour trip could potentially take longer. You can always call the rafting company and ask how the river looks today. Have fun!

We've done this many times with small kids, and they love it. Bring lots of snacks and food, make sure you have towels in the raft so you can cover them if the sun is too strong, and just enjoy! It's definitely easier if you have more kids who entertain each other (not sure what ages and stages you have), but don't let others discourage you. As for the bathroom... The kids do what they have to do- you can pull over to the side of the river and they can go there.
Our favorite route is Kittatiny staircase to Matamoras.

We did the Delaware rafting trip last year. There were definitely families with young toddlers on board. Different companies have different guidlines so check it out beforehand. The blow up rafts were roomy and comfortable and we pulled over to shore several times along the way for tinkle breaks in the trees, lunch, exploring, etc. Just make sure to pack hats, food, and plenty of water.
Regarding the tznius situation, we did go on a busy Sunday, but found that once out on the water we were basically on our own little oasis. The river is big enough that you're not constantly bumping into other boats or having other boaters right in front of you.

Thank you!
What route did you take?

We've gone kayaking in Bucks County. For the bus ride up DH would take his glasses off. Once you are in the water, though, you barely see anyone else.
FTR the minimum age there is 4..

I was thinking about having him remove his glasses and being the navigator. I really love being in a beautiful environment like the Delaware river and desperately want to have this last opportunity before it’s back to the grind.

Many people likely planned to go this week. I don't think it's freaky unless you'd know for sure it's this family. It can literally be 1,000 other people who wanted to know this.

I know many many people that went this week/planning on going this week. Additionally this OP does not sound like she was asking about a family trip.
